And NOT General Aesop! That tard pulls his numbers out of his arse!!!😂👍
That’s $468k per annum on minimum wage in current dollars - assuming this meme is right. (I caution: I didn’t fact check this).
There is no way minimum wage would have allowed for that level of income in 1971.
Unless my Common Core edjyakashun fails me.

1971 gold ran from $37+ to $44+ depending on the day. Meme used cost of about $35. Gold currently is running around $5000. That 1.82 oz would be worth $9100 so the meme math is correct.
ReplyDeleteOf course gold pricing is manipulated just like fiat bux.
Price of gold in 1971 was around $40, one week at 1.60 an hour equals $64. Gold today is $5000 an ounce, the math is there.
ReplyDeleteI’m sure it is… but to say that minimum wage in 71 afforded a lifestyle of a person getting close to half a million dollars today…?
DeleteNot a chance.
Okay einstine,
DeleteIt is a reflection of inflation.
Gold is constant, you could buy 1.82 oz of gold for $64 in 1971, today 1.82 oz of gold costs ~ $5000
Is it? I think it’s because gold is overvalued right now, and wages have been stagnant for so long… but whadda I know?
DeleteGold is overvalued as compared to what?
DeleteWhy have wages been stagnant? Possibly be because between 1970 and 1990 a metric fuckton of women entered the job market after having completed a degree at college and diluted the labor pool giving employers no reason to pay competitive wages?
DeleteJust something to consider.
Minimum wage in 1980 was just a hair over $3/hr. I worked 39 hours a week as my boss at the grocery store didn't want me to qualify for full time. I was still living at home and going to high school. With my paycheck I could barely afford a car and gas/beer money. There's no way I could have survived on that. Minimum wage was not a sustainable income.
ReplyDeleteWhile inflation is real and a complete mess, also remember that gold is subject to speculation and the current world events dictate that the US dollar is generally worthless. You can't compare to the 70's or even 80's, and minimum wage was never designed to support a family. That stupid kind of thinking is what is driving the $25/hr burger flippers today.
Agreed.
DeleteAll that glitters is not Gold.
ReplyDeleteI started full-time work at a factory in June, 1978, 2 weeks out of high school at 2.65 an hour. I still have that paystub, net pay was just over $88. My first month's gross pay as a USAF E-1 in January, 1980, was $448. Who could afford gold, at 560 - 640 an ounce by then, let alone trying to support a family as a lot of my GI brethren did.
ReplyDeletegeneral???
