I’m in trouble …with a debilitating case of cabin fever. I’m so bored - even with all my hobbies - that I’m doing recreational math. I’ve figured out (and proven!) that the older ya get and the slower you go, the faster time flies. Time slows as you approach relativistic velocities… and contracts as the fatter and lazier ya get. If ya slow beyond a certain threshold time blows by and ya run the risk of waking up dead like Tree Mike did! The walls of the Reclusium are papered with complex mathematical proofs and equations - I’ve worked it all out. I also mathematically discovered that yes you can push up on a rope, aliens are real, and the jews are responsible - for everything!!!
I need to go outside and play… preferably an overnighter… Take a gun, the skis, the dawg and a fart sack and some food, and sleep under the stars and enjoy a campfire. The problem is that my blood doesn’t run as hot and thick as it used to and I can’t handle the cold camping the way I did 20 years ago.
I’ve been playing with different heating options to sleep in the truck but I think I finally have the answer. Possibly with four solutions.
That’s the new breed of diesel heaters. They run off a portable battery like a Jackery. Ya fill it up with diesel, spark off the heater… and it pumps hot dry air into your tent or camper. It exhausts outside so there’s no condensation or fumes inside.
The first small diesels were noisy, smelly and unreliable pieces of Chinese junk. These new ones coming out are supposed to be game changers. They’re quiet, clean and well built from what I’m hearing.
I’d buy one right now but we’ve just been told - Fergus will be ready to move in with us next week. His biological mother now basically ignores the pups and they couldn’t care less. They’re eating solid food on their own, playing with their toys and are totally independent. They’re very sociable and curious about everything and everyone.
God willing this could be The Year Of The Stubfart. Let us all hope so! I think we’re off to a good start.
😊👍

I've been looking at getting a diesel heater as well. A buddy has 2 and is happy with both, though the older one was wider and the newer one being narrower he is concerned about knocking it over.

I have the Hcalory TC2S. It’s being used to heat a 24ft. enclosed trailer that I use to hunt moose and caribou out of. The trailer is not insulated. I’ve never had the outside temperature go below 25 degrees Fahrenheit. I’ve set up a bed that is raised to allow room for storage of cooking and camping/hunting gear. The rest of the trailer is open space for hauling the side by side.
ReplyDeleteI keep the heater inside the trailer along with the air intake. I vent the exhaust. Over all I stay warm enough. I don’t run it on high because of the noise. I tried to install a inline fuel filter but the box is too tight to fit one. So I’m running the diesel through a filter as I pour in the fuel. I’ve been using a deep cell 12v battery for power and have gotten 5 nights out of it. I’ve never had to charge it with the generator. That being said, I now have a 3000 watt Jackery solar generator that will be used to power the system. Over all I like the little unit. I don’t think it would be able to handle the extreme cold temperatures we get here without doing serious insulation on the trailer. Last but not least, a friend is using one he put together to heat a room in his house. It is in the back and the farthest from his wood stove. He reports that he runs it around the clock and is using less than a gallon of fuel a day. The room is a steady 63f. and he gets enough heat coming out of the room to burn less wood. For a reference, almost the entire month of December we were between -50 and -60 degrees.
You can absolutely push a rope - if you first soak it in water then toss it out in the snow for a day or two.
ReplyDeleteA risk I was prepared to take!...for some slowdown. Unfortunately, or fortunately...not sure, I woke up on this side of the Rainbow Bridge again.
ReplyDeleteThe coffee seems especially good this morning, think I'll carry on for a bit longer. I DO have three dogs to take care of...and a wife...and a mother in law. OK! The dogs out number the wahmens and the youngest, a 90lbs, 3/4 Malinois, German Shepherd mutt will likely out live 'em both, I better stick around.
