Picking on Ol’ Man Hickok Again: YES

Is this the ultimate long range cowboy rifle?

Why - yes. Yes it is.
It is also the butt-ugliest rifle ever invented too…

It’s hard to believe St. Browning invented it, considering all the other graceful and elegant firearms he pioneered. (Edit: I am full of chit! Apologies from the management…no refunds). The rolling block action looks clumsy and inefficient but working it is just so satisfying. There is charm and nostalgia enough in these guns for anyone. Before I bought mine I was going to buy a Sharps falling block. The Italian repros I handled in the gun shop just didn’t fit me right. The clerk pushed the rolling block into my hands and just to shut him up, I shouldered it. Welp… I’ve never fallen in love with a pig - but if I ever did… I think it’d feel much like falling in love with a Remington roller! It just settled in my hands and I was lost. I was astonished.

I loaded up some great big cast lead Postells and Money Points and went to the range. This pig could also shoot like a champ! One session was enough: I went home, got on the innernet and ordered in a precision  vernier tang sight for it. The big buffalo gun didn’t quibble either… like any pig, it ate what was offered and loved it all. As long as it was big, heavy and slow… it shoots exactly where you point it. It would be pure blasphemy… but I almost want to put a scope on it!

If you’re in the market for a BPCR gun… do yourself a favour. Get past its looks. Just hold it and maybe fiddle with the action a bit. If ya don’t like it…fine, at least you had a look at it. But if it speaks to you…listen and obey.

You won’t be sorry.
