Stubfart Ramble: The Maliciously Mendacious Meat Head Murders

Everyone seems to be emoting over the murder of Meat Head (actor Rob Reiner) and his wife. Lots a folks hoisting a glass for good riddance of bad trash. This in turn has aroused the ire of the scolds and finger waggers giving sanctimonious lectures about incivility and unsportsmanlike conduct in speaking ill of the dead. “What about all the GOOD things Meat Head did?!?!?”

I suppose that might have made sense, long ago in better times when we were better people? Back before the late 90s, it seems to me. I get it… back then when we disagreed we sat down and hashed things out. In my progressive family that meant me zipping my lip while the liberal family members decided what the family was going to do. Conservatives like me were expected to listen respectfully while the liberals gave sanctimonious lectures and made all the decisions. If I disagreed with them on anything it was because I was mean and/or stupid. If I persisted the name calling and personal attacks started. I learned to shut my mouth, find somewhere else to be and let them do what they were going to do. For the most part.

And things got worse. They always got worse, usually for me first. Most times it eventually got worse for them too. But I lost the family battles and arguments like a gentleman! They weren’t supposed to… but  they still called me names anyway. It used to tear me right up.

Used to.

I kept my lip zipped or tried to smile until one day I realized those idiots were going to destroy themselves. And me too if they could. I day dreamed about killing my mother the same way the Joker tried to kill Batman: tie her into a chair and maybe slowly lower her into a big vat of foaming, steaming sulphuric acid while I cackled maniacally… I’d do my in-laws similarly - maybe tying them up in front of a steam roller running at low idle, inching forward towards them ever so slowly… HAR HAR HAR!!! Not condoning Meat Head’s son… but I understand him. I’m guessing maybe he was the family punching bag too? Whadda I know? I’m probly just projecting. A lot of these guys preaching about civility and restraint and courteous dialogue are Yesterday Men, coming from families or communities of like minded men that think if we all just grow up and act like adults… we can literally, easily have our cake and eat it too. And while they preach common bloody sense… guys like Reiner are calling them racists and bigots and advocating and agitating for abolishing their civil rights and freedoms. Or calling for their assassination. His buddies over on the far left are sodomizing children, writing manifestos, inscribing their brass cartridges with taunts to fascists, and killing family men and Christians like Charlie Kirk that dare to disagree with them. As Art explains masterfully… this is why we lose.  The scolds and finger waggers don’t understand what they’re seeing. The far left are ginning themselves up to kill us. And when they do finally spin themselves up… those guys kill thousands, millions - sometimes tens of millions of innocent people, most of whom just wanted to be left alone. 

I’ve been through the liberal family meat grinder. I thought it was the end of the world when my family imploded but… by the grace of God I did spectacularly well. My marriage actually survived and improved. I have an alternative family at the li’l chapel out in the country but I’m careful to keep a loving and respectful distance. I keep my social circle small but square. There’s people whose baggage I want  nothing to do with, and I don’t want them in mine, thank you very much. Life is so much better without the stupids in it. For now… distance works. I feel like we are watching history unfold from different vantage points, and that most of us want to see it the way we want it to be, and not the way it actually is. Meat Head never saw what was coming his way, and I’ll bet he was the one that sealed his own fate - not his son. It’s a mistake I easily could have made myself. And who knows…? Maybe next week my batshit crazy sea hag mother or my demented gay daughter could be lowering ME into a vat of steaming supheric acid as I gobble hysterically in fright!

Our worst adversaries are the ones we create for ourselves.
