Hrmpffffff…! 🤨

If fuggin Chutes jumped off a bridge… not saying I’d do it too … but I’d probly think about it. If Pete and Mike and Don did it? I’d be out there swan diving into the North Saskatchewan sure as chit! The peer pressure would be too much! HAR HAR HAR!!!

😂👍

Perhaps I’m too hard on myself? When Covid happened I told everyone that if they tried to jab me with their shit vaccine - someone was going to get shot. And I meant it too. I don’t take orders from stupid people.

So…I’m just vapour locked here.

What the hell is that???
A periscope…?

Yeah. It’s a thing now. That’s a red dot pistol sight piggybacked on to a regular rifle scope. I’ve seen a few of the gunnies doing it now.

So… if I understand this correctly, ya set the red dot up for the close stuff and the scope is zeroed out for the farther shots…? And ya got redundant sighting options in the event of a mechanical failure. I guess it’s common among the run n’ gun competitors… but now some of the old stubfart Fudds are doing it too. And I’m starting to feel the heat of retard peer pressure!!!

But… nah. I don’t pamper my guns but I don’t beat them hard enough to warrant back up sights. And I know how to spin that dial on a variable scope so I don’t need the complexities and hassles of dual sighting systems set for different ranges.

I think I’ll let the cool kids have this one.

  1. If it looks gay, it prolly is. Might as well add an 'Laaazure' too!

  2. I missed a fallow doe last year because of my scope. It was drizzling and while wiping the moisture off with a cloth - my scope moved in the bloody rings. About then a small herd of fallow does wandered into the clearing to feed. I couldn't be 100% certain my projectile was going to land where I was aimed - so I didn't pull the trigger and I didn't mind one bit - it wasn't meant to be that day and I'd get her next time. I just wish my Tikka had iron sights so I could have continued my hunt. Red dots on their own are becoming a thing here in Australia for pigs at short range with bolt actions.

  3. I have an 8 year old Chinesiun, something (Pinty) clone, red/green, 10 illumination levels, 5 reticles, on a 10 inch, 5,56 (left it outside, in the rain, overnight, about 5 years age, no malfs so far). I use the dot only option, it's precision small. Makes very small (3") groups for me with my minute-of-wobble, at 100 yards.
With a scope, you MUST line up exactly the same, every time, or your group opens up and it takes longer. If yer misaligned on the dot sight, the dot is still where the bullet goes.
It's a much quicker, both eyes open, system. My 74 year old eyes may have biased my POV.

  4. PS, nice laminated stock on that not-a-tupperware, Ruger. Looks 243/308 size.
Found out my neighbor has a 270 Ruger American, tack driver. The next county over Walmart, has two on sale for under $500. He's going to get another one. Because one is none? It's so inexpensive, why not?

  5. It's one of those things....if it works for you, fine. If it doesn't you don't have to. Isn't being "free" a wonderful thing.

    1. Yup it's your shooting bench, your campfire - your rules. No offence meant - if this is your bag and it works for you - shoot it and smile. The only guy we gotta please is the bum we see in the mirror when we shave in the morn.

  6. I use a fixed 6-power scope with a built-in red/green reflex dot/circle. Close one eye and use the scope. Open both eyes and use the reflex dot.

    1. Y'know... there's a lot to be said for that if the quality and glass is good. We hunted with fixed 4X's for years and we did alright. 6X is still low enough not to seriously handicap you if targets pop up close either. I shoot with both eyes open and and your field of view is fine (and actually, critical on close moving targets... but I'd still prefer a variable 1x5 or 1x6 maybe? I like being on the lowest power possible in the bush country...

  7. I agree with Chutes, totally gay.

I've heard it said that the Mattel rifle, with all it's little add-ons and accessories, is like a Barbie for men. At some point, just stop. Scope, back-up iron sights, and a red dot? Please. Next you'll add a laser, just in case.

    1. People, (OPERATORS!!!) put enough hardware on ARs to make them weigh more than an M1 Garand, 9+ pounds!
I'm old, I prefer lightweight, low speed, low drag, sling and an engine to haul it ALL around with.

    2. Hrrrrrrmmmmm.... I am a bit of a gear queer, if I may appropriate the term. I love gizmos and farkles. I think a solid case can be made for a weapon light. They're handy if you gotta go outside and check out a disturbance in the hen house, or your out on a canoe trip in the back country and ya wake up in the middle of the night to do your business.

And there are some really nifty units that combine a laser with the light. Very cool.... but again... I'm an old Fudd with unacceptable fringe opinions so whadda I know...?
