It makes me wonder. Crime and punishment is a serious problem here in Canada. I think it was in Morontario (Tranna?) that some idiot police chief was forced to address the growing problem of home invasions and criminality. His brilliant solution was for the citizens under his protection to leave their cash, keys and other valuables in a convenient bowl at the front entrance. That way - the cudgel could just help himself and leave rather than coming further into the home and risking a confrontation with the owners. He was serious. (BTW - You can shove your gun laws up your ass, Chief). Sadly, the clowns are still in charge here in Canada too. We have certainly have the crime rates to show for it.
It makes me think hard about Sharia Law. Say what ya want - they don't have problems with drugs, failed liberal social experiments, shitty single moms raising shitty children, etc. They take crime and punishment seriously and outside of the way it treats women, children, Jews, Christians and other minorities... it works.
The Imams and Ayatollahs are the law. They answer only to God and most are sworn to poverty. Sure, they live well - but they don't reel in millions in dirty money or live the debauched lifestyles our leaders do. The law is spelled out and drilled into their citizens from childhood. You do crime 'x' - you draw punishment 'y'. The decisions of the judges are scrutinized by their peers. There are no plea bargains, backroom deals, or bullshit lawfare.
Minus its obvious flaws and biases... maybe we could learn something from them? But... Our judiciaries obviously need their clocks cleaned. For any kind of holy law... we'd need to clean our bloody clerics out too.
We are so effed.
