FFS! 🤬
I dunno what it is. I’ve never had battery problems before.
Never.
Back when I had a Bomb ATV (BRP, nowadays I guess) - I left that thing in the shed rear-round and never gave batteries a second thought. The Dawgmobile was the same. I’d go out in the middle of winter and they’d crank and do their jobs and you could bet your life that they’d crank - every…single…time. All my friends said that I was blessed by the Battery Gods and was the beneficiary of their favour! I just took it for granted and therein lies my fall from grace. Nowadays I can’t trust a battery farther than I can throw it! I am so shamed and humiliated in that I had to add a fuggin battery warmer to my mountainous plunder of crap that I gotta keep on hand. Even the fuggin RV camper batteries are against me now!
😞
Unsurprisingly I went out to fire up Big Red to go to church last Sunday…and the big cruiser laid down on me. I hit the start, and…Grrrr…rrrr…rr…pbbffffft! 💨
🤬
So I goes to ye olde cycle shop and buy a battery but my penance meant nothing! Ya can’t just go down and buy a fresh battery anymore; ya buy a box that has the battery and acid in a separate container and ya gotta fill it and charge it yourself. WTF?
Sigh. Apparently the process involves noxious odours that “smell like nasty old man farts”. Great. It’s not a big deal… but just another time-suck to add to my list of “nasty old man” chores.
Please pray for me, my brethren. It’s the kind of job that should be quick; but also one that nasty old retards like yours truly can turn into a major PITA for some reason.
Wish me luck! I hope that all your PITA’s today are simple, straightforward and fast! And - thanks for stopping in!
It is the season for battery death here in the land of "Fruits and Nuts " (CA) too. The original batteries (note plural) in the Ram 2500 diesel died. Then one of the travel trailer batteries, the battery on the small tractor , the starting battery on the boat and now the SxS battery is in its death throes. The best deal on batteries is a 60 mile round trip. I would have the number saved in the phone but, I figure that would kill its battery too.
ReplyDeleteMotorcycle batteries can be a pita. My wife has a Honda - Roadsmith trike conversion, a Goldwing with reconfigured rear chassis. Changing out the battery which is covered with a couple of layers of motorcycle frosting - I have not the patience.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that in the past, I had plenty of car batteries last 5 years. Now, most of them won't even last the 3 year warranty period. And every time I go back with receipts, I get a different answer. In some cases they simply give me a new battery but with no more warranty, others will prorate and basically give me nothing since it "almost" lasted three years.
ReplyDeleteLast 2 times I did a bike battery I ordered from Amazon. Battery arrives like you described, dry and with the acid in a sealed plastic jug. Cheap, too. So I reckon I'll be replacing them fairly frequently too.
Just because it's simple, doesn't mean it's easy. I too am battling the war against batteries AND electrical goblins.
ReplyDeleteThere is no winning this war, only inexorable entropy.
Well everything went fine enough with the fill and charge. The seats came off the bike easy as pie, old battery out, new one in…but it took me 45 minutes to connect the terminals!!! 🤬🤬🤬
ReplyDeleteThey attach by means of Phillips head screws. Space to work is nonexistent; you have to stick four horse shoes up yer arse, hold your face exactly right, and pray to the battery Gods for mercy to start the bolt on the threads! I almost chimped out in rage a couple times. This time when the snow flies, I’ll pull the battery and take it into the house for the winter. Same with the trailer batteries.
