I’m a bachelor this week. The wife is out with the kids at the lake at the Girl’s Bible camp. It’s a great deal too. It’s free, it’s open to everyone and the kids get away from the folks, they have all kinds of fun and activities and the Bible stuff is kept to an absolute minimum - enough to keep the l’il ones on the up and square with their Maker. I dunno who has more fun - the kids or the women! They had regular meetings to plan everything where the hens natter and chatter and make lists and scheme and plot. At the end of the week they’re all tuckered right out and exhausted… but they’re all happy. It’s the old adage: if the wife’s happy - I’m happy!
HAR HAR HAR HAR!!! 😆👍
I pooped the bed this morn so the Niglet and I rolled out at 05:00 for dawg patrol. It’s a great time of year. It’s still balmy enough for sandals and tee shirts (don’t forget to put on your pants, Filthie!) but I can smell the fall in the air. All the parks are deserted at this time of day and I let Hanna off the leash to run and play as she will. We got back at 7:00 and I got a text from the wife:
Guess her day’s off to a good start…
😊
I’m not doing bad either!

She’s out with B’s wife who is one of the other camp councillors. B and I are friends too, and he called me up last night, absolutely fuming. They “adopted”a young 20 year old - single mom with a train wrecked life, who lives in their basement with her two year old. I had to hang up after listening to his story. The kid wants to grow up in the worst way, but doesn’t have the street smarts or maturity to do it. She’s a good kid but she knows everything. It just brought back a flood of memories from when my own daughter crashed and burned over a decade ago. I’ve learned to repress a lot of it. Some young women get to that age and figure they can make their own life decisions and do so… and when their trains de-rail it’s everyone else’s fault but their own. If you’re a father of such a young woman, it’s a no-win situation. Your choice is either go along with them and accept the drama, psychosis, and financial drain… or you part ways to save what’s left of your sanity. The hell of it is the kid usually ends up hating you either way. Been there, done that, got the tee shirt. I listened to him vent, but it’s not my circus, not my monkeys. He’s coming over later today to chat about it but what can I say? The young lady is getting involved with a man twice her age that looks like he came off the cast of The Sons Of Anarchy….
I am a complete failure when it comes to female hysteria and drama so the best thing I can do is shut my hole, be there to listen… and pray. Being a father in this day and age is mighty tough business. I think it’s even worse now than it was when I was doing it.
Might be a good time to pray for all fathers, now that I think of it? 🤔
Fwench Press? Say it ain't so!
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I wanted one of those enameled blue tin pots like the one Matt Dillon and Festus have in the Sherriff’s Office… until I saw the price of them. I may still have to nut up and buy one because it’d make life a lot easier for those important stubfart conferences when life gets serious.
DeleteYou're wise to keep your yap shut. I obviously don't know this fellow, but from my own experience I have found that most people seek out a 'second opinion' for validation, not a 'Devil's Advocate'. If he was really thinking alike with you, he probably wouldn't have put himself in the position he is in the first place.
ReplyDeleteThe hell of it is, even if you did give this guy your two cents and try to talk him out of what sounds sure to be a flaming garbage truck, he probably not only wouldn't listen but might even think you're the asshole for having a contrary viewpoint.
Can I assume you’ve been to a few of these goat rodeos too, JL? Ugggghhhh. B and I just finished up - we went through three pots of coffee and several cigars and over half my day’s shot. We didn’t solve anything but at least he’s simmered down enough that he can talk without spitting and gobbing I suppose. But… he’s in a tough way, alright. His womenfolk are going bananas over there, and there’s not a damn thing anyone can do about it! He’s so upset he even spoke to our church elders about it, and those cowards took the fifth amendment the same way I did!
DeleteThere’s just some things in life that ya gotta work out for yourself and there’s no bones about it. All I did was make him promise not to do anything rash or stupid without talking to one of us first…so hopefully things’ll all will work out…
I sure have seen my share of this sort of crap, hence why I offered my $0.02. Your buddy sounds like a decent fella, but you're 100% on point: he needs to put his foot down (granted, in a measured way) but he needs to be the one to hit the brakes on this.
DeleteI think we both know that if he doesn't do it now, he probably won't be able to when he REALLY needs to. I hope it works out for him.
Smart move. He probably should have selected one church elder and asked for advice, then made his own decision and put it into play.
DeleteA friend of mine went to visit a mutual acquaintance recently. The couple is very well off, financially speaking. The first directive he was given as he crossed the threshold was, "Don't even look at the girls." Both under 18, but only just. I think he's counting the days until the oldest gets kicked to the curb, never to darken his doorway again.
Yeah, it really is that bad.
No chit. I got a look at the young lady’s beau… and even listened to him. He sent one of those voice/text recordings where he explained that he has a place in their lives and family and it just made my skin crawl. Not kidding - I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if this creep isn’t in the files somewhere with the cops. Even my “dad-radar” went off! The last time it did that was 15 years ago…
DeleteEverything’s harder nowadays. It’s tough being a dad…it’s probly even tougher being a kid that wants to grow up and be an adult…
World is going to shit, at work the young guys get married have a kud then decide they want a job that isn't remote shifts and so they take a job closer to home to spend more time with family. Everytime i hear one talking about doing this i ask what their wife thinks of the idea. If the answer is she's opposed, well thats a red flag. Everyone of those cases he was divorced within 6 months because the wife had a side thing and didn't want the husband home all the time. In over a dozen years i have seen it 14 times and everytime its the same story.
ReplyDeleteJust because you dont know things are bad doesnt mean they aren't .

I agree completely Exile - I’ve seen that too. So completely over female nature that I am starting to believe DNA testing to confirm paternity is ESSENTIAL before the father’s name can be added to the birth certificate.
DeleteDeception is as natural as breathing for most women and they are so practiced at it that they rarely get caught cheating.
When I was a teenager I noticed that every female I knew was permanently in a relationship. I would go 3 - 6 months between women but my old girl usually had another man when she broke it off. But the girls were NEVER single.
Marriage is asinine unless she’s in her early 20’s and wants kids. Otherwise WHY would a man risk everything?
I think we guys are partially at fault too…or at least, I was. My gut would be screaming at me that some odd behaviour was a red flag for something else. And - I’d ignore it. I didn’t want to fight about anything, i didn’t want to accuse anyone, I didn’t want to even see those red flags. I think it’s the same for daughter things as it is for wife things? If they’re doing horrible things… most times a man doesn’t want to see it. Now the second I think I see some woman up to something I call it as I see it and damn the consequences.
