I guess trench art is a “thing”.
I’ve seen some beautiful lighters made with empty shell casings.
Some of the cartoonists did spectacular work lampooning
their friends and officers.
Something like this though?
There’s seriously bad karma going on in that relic…
A full sized, grinning skull, I wonder if that was the last thing some poor, unfortunate German soldier saw on his way to the the Great Beyond.
ReplyDeleteImagine that image, a hunnert n seven years newer! Shivers...
Back in the day when industry workers still wore metal hardhats, some people would put extraordinary time into custom painting their hardhats. Working 12 hr shift left them with lots of time at night to just sit there and monitor gages, so painting got done on company time. All that went away when we went to plastic hardhats. Never forget what they took from us!!
ReplyDeleteAfter surviving a couple of years of trench warfare and a couple of attacks over No Man's Land...I don't think the artist cared...he just figured he was dead man walking. Think of how the survivors of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment felt after the first day of the Battle of the Somme (01 July 1916) 80% casualties.
