But… if they are accurate… what does this data tell us?
One reason might be that a majority of these countries have social programs (welfare) that are income based and by divorcing one or both become eligible.
ReplyDeleteJust at a guess, but most mexican/hispanic wimmen are heavily catholic (with a side of whatever voo-doo stuff they grew up with) and will never get a divorce. They just accept that husbands have lots of sex with other wimmen (including relatives, children, prostitutes, etc.) and put up with it. Thus the lower divorce rate in Mexico and South America.
ReplyDeleteAfrica? Beats me. I think polygamy and other such tribal notions are beyond what we typically think of as the family unit and divorce over there probably ranges from the islamic "I divorce you" proclamation that seals the deal to ritual beheadings and funeral pyres.
I'd say that graph was mostly complete bullshit.

Delete38% in Canada? Sounds about right, a decade ago it was 1/3 of all marriages in Canada end in divorce.

A better question is to ask what percent of 1st marriages end in divorce. We've all seen the types who burn though 3+ marriages and skew those statistics.
ReplyDeleteGood point, I've known a few women in their 50's who burned thru 2 or 3 marriages before hitting 60, each time taking half of the guy's assets in order to fund their own retirement. Dear god, if you're a man, in your 50's, single and looking to get hitched, write up an iron-clad pre-nup cause those bitches are out there and will take every penny they can. A trip to Vegas and Bunny Ranch are way way cheaper if you really got to scratch that itch.
