Yep. But give em credit: they might have had two or three clips they played over and over again…ππ
It’s weird. We never see any kids’ shows about Iraq or Afghanistan that portray the squaddies in heroic light. Everything out of Hollywood today about the military is dark and downbeat…
Mine Too. It was filmed about an hour south of where I grew up, in a place called Indian Dunes, near Magic Mountain Amusement park. If you look closely, you will sometimes see the Park's "Sky Tower" sticking up above the hills when the planes land. My Dad took me down there on a weekend, to see the location. We drove around and got to see the sets. (well some of them) We saw the parked Corsairs, but none were flying that day. It remains a fond memory.
I was in grade six when this show came on. I had to get special dispensation from mom to stay up until 10PM (the time the show ended in my time zone). She watched a few episodes with me at first just to make sure there wasn't any sexual stuff--but when she realized it was all fighting, drinking and shooting down Japs--she was good to go. I wonder if she thought I did the same things (except the shooting down Japs part) when I joined the military.
When my Dad's ANG unit had it's 25th anniversary the planes from the show were part of an airshow. It was neat watching the corsairs and zeros flying over the neighborhood like it was the Marianas Turkey Shoot.
We are poor little lambs, who have lost our way. Baaa Baaa Baaa!
ReplyDeleteHell youngster. It was one of my favorites as an adult.
ReplyDeleteYup!
DeleteLoved it! But they could only show the same stock footage of a Zero spiraling into the ocean so many times.

ReplyDelete...And Pappy Boyington was actually the technical advisor for the show! Indeed! LOVED the show! It didn't last NEARLY long enough!
