I’ll take a Marlin any day, and twice again on Sunday - over the Big Bore 94. My Guide Gun was blued and wore a Leupold 1x5 VXIII and it shot like a house on fire! I cobbled up a patty cake load of Reloader 7 under a Remington 405 gr. bulk bullet and off the bench that sucker almost went MOA. Not kidding either, groups were coming in at around 1.095 all day long. If I had to hunt a T-Rex I could stoke it up so hot that it’d kill on both ends! One of the tards at the gun club told me you could fire a .410 in the .45-70 so I tried it and it worked! The extraction was poor, and the patterns sucked, for what it was worth.
Maybe in the next life I won’t be born retarded and will be able to shoot the ‘94. I’d really love to live it but the gun Gods have decreed otherwise…
Calm down, Ernie...you're getting yourself all worked up for no reason. No one is trying to keep you from your Marlin.
ReplyDeleteMy brother Big Mike has one. He bought it years ago for obvious reasons. The rifle will eat hot loads, but it also kicks like a pissed off Missouri mule. By his own admission, Kim Du Toit is a recoil wussy, so that's one more rifle for us.
ReplyDeleteI've got the .45-70 in a D-Max revolver. Hand engraved, stainless steel, five shots, no hot loads. So, should I haul out my Big Dick Pistol, I may need two shots for a T-Rex. Anything else I'll stop in one.
I have a very old model 94, and recently inherited an old (but not quite as old) Marlin 336, both in 30-30 as that's the best caliber ever for a deer rifle. The Winchester really looks the part, but the Marlin is scoped and odds on favorite for actually hitting the target. I haven't shot either in ages, but got some handloads ready to go, just need range time.
ReplyDeleteI like the Winchester because it is sleek and light weight, but the Marlin is the one to bet on. I have a 1957, m39, carbine in 22 lr. Super sweet.
ReplyDeleteMan, I have a T/C Contender barrel in .45/70 Govt. I ought to try it out with a .410 - they were built hell for strong. Though the rifling will probably spread shot like a mofo ...
ReplyDeleteI agree that Marlin levers are more convenient to scope with the older models but the Winchesters are easier to carry single handed (Marlin lever link for me screws it up) and the Winchester I think feels a bit lighter too. Winchesters AE models (Angle Eject) did finally help conquer top eject scope collisions, but the sliding safeties REALLY made them an eye sore. I like them both for different reasons.
