I dunno the first thing about Harry Potter or the stories. The wife dragged me to one of the movies 20 years ago and I think we left early. She told me it was because I fell asleep and started snoring and farting - but I think it was really because the movie wasn’t her cup of tea, maybe? All I know is that Harry was incredibly popular with the kids and grew up with a generation of them. And some adults are right into it as well. Whatever, I guess? Fans are fans. They don’t have to make sense.
Another phenomenon arose with Harry and the millennials and zoomers that grew up him - something called fan-fiction or ‘fanfic’ for short. The kids re-write the stories starring their favourite characters. It’s something that really appeals to certain demographics. The queers are right into it and they go all the way. The characters are all heroic queer versions that somewhat resemble the originals. Or they’re re-cast as co-stars that support stories with fat ugly harridans as alternative heroes. It’s niche literature; I tried to read some of it and it just gives me the ick. Apparently I’m not the only one; the Usual Suspects tried to push this shite into video games and it’s so bad the kids stopped buying them. The reaction of the customers was so bad that entire video game studios have since collapsed. It’s basically the Bud Light Syndrome: go woke, go broke.
I have no problem with fanfic myself. I dunno how many times I’ve come out of movies or finished a book only to be disappointed by the way they ended. I understand the desire to re-write the fictional stories. And if queers n’ feminists and other idiots and turdies want to re-write stories where they can re-imagine themselves as heroes I never really thunk it could do much harm.
The problem is that the wrong people are doing it now. I guess some fuggin white male chud did some fanfic where some characters got gender swapped… but he didn’t do it right! He forgot to race swap it, and the new female character was white, good looking and heterosexual!!! Can you imagine the horror?! ? And - the worst sin of all - is that it became popular. Other horrible white male miscreants accepted the premise and began writing their own stories and now the world of fanfic is ruined!!! And to add insult to injury… the guys are using AI to make a better production than Hollywood.
I know a couple writers. Good ones too. I am not a whodunnit/crime fan but I read WL Emery’s “Murder One” and greatly enjoyed it. (I recommend it, I think you can still buy it on Amazon? Blog visitor Poli has shared very, very promising manuscript and I think he should self publish it. And he should do it yesterday.
But… put yourself in their shoes: ya flesh out a story, go to the trouble, time and expense to publish it… and then Filthie comes along, re-writes everything? Can I monetize it? Can they? Suppose Jack comes along and animates it all with AI?
I dunno what to make of any of this.

Hmmmpfffff! I guess the cool kids have finally decided that prepping for disasters might be a good idea…? I’m hearing that Germany and Sweden are conceding that having 3 to 10 days of preps per household should cover any emergencies they are likely to face. I’d call that ridiculously unprepared, myself. Also, now that Europe is now thoroughly culturally enriched and fortified by diversity… having a weapon around to deter the new breeds of scavengers, predators and parasites is absolutely essential. To prep in an ecosystem like that is to become a target. But it’s nice to see that being prepared is no longer considered a “red flag” by otherwise normal people.

Well… that’s all I got for this week. Scuttlebutt on the back channels has the tinfoil hat oracles predicting something big in the winds. They always are, but… gawd…I can’t put my finger on it… but something feels different. It’s like smoke starts filling the car, something stinks but all the idiot gages are green and dials are reading nominal. It might just be a good time to maybe wedge a few more preps in the cracks, fill all the jerry cans and maybe just carry on with a heightened state of awareness?
