My latest and last dog team is complete. A large chapter of my life was spent with our former K9 room mates - Macey and Mort. You can never replace friends and family like that. I don’t even try. We just meshed and ran like a Swiss watch. Out on patrol Macey was always out front. I was in the middle and Mort brought up the rear. After some training they were courteous and polite with everyone. Macey was super intelligent; Mort as dumb as a post but fiercely loyal and loving. Time flies to fast! What I’d give for a walk with them today!
But it can’t be - all I can do is start again. Hannah is loving but clumsy and goofy. Fergie is intensely curious but still a baby. And I am not even the same man I was all those short years ago. We are three again, and a new walk starts today.
Wish us luck.

A "weather report" seems you in for laughter, sternly worded but ignored bad puppy and maybe Mort acting out as a puppy for more attention.
ReplyDeleteHave fun buddy, Dogs are indeed a man's BEST Friends.
A blessing from God.

Have fun Glen. Young pets are mostly fun, but their 'teenage' years often have some rough spots to work on. Our then young dog decided to pull the side trim of my wife's Infiniti for whatever reason it had. I've seen friendlier faces on totem poles - she was royally pissed !! Luckily, the trim was not bent and was salvaged to be re-installed.
ReplyDeleteI hope your walk with new crew goes well. Expect much attention on the young one. Like babies, kittens and pups gain admirers speaking to them in weird voices ....
That's an nice carpet you have there, be a shame if 'something' were to happen to it!! Worth the stretch IMO!

Yeha, Glen, dogs essentially bookmark chapters in our lives. They come and they go, leaving impressions on our lives as that happens. We remember not only the dogs, but US during their tenures with us. We lost two very good dogs within a month of each other a couple of years back; an Aussie and a German Shepherd. We had another Aussie who was incredibly lonely after the other two left. One dark, rainy morning I went out and started my car to go to work, only to find a dog standing about ten feet in front of me in the headlights. For a second I thought I's spotlighted a coyote. The damned thing just stood there. I tried to get close to it but it backed away from me step for step. I told my wife about it before I left for work. She couldn't coax the dog into the dry either. That damned dog stood there in that same spot all day in the cold and rain until I got home! My son and I managed to get it into the garage, onto an old dog bed loaned to me by my neighbor, and covered with a blanket. The thing was emaciated, weak, and soaked to the bone. The next morning found the dog still in that bed, still covered up. We brought him into the house at that point. That was just under a year ago. "Shadow," found to be a Black Greyhound, is a goofy but INCREDIBLY smart dog that can pretty much outrun anything. Everyone loves him and he loves everyone; even the cat! He was a plug & play fit! He never has, however, forgotten the two people who brought him in out of the cold, especially ME! He follows me EVERYWHERE, step for step. Hence, "Shadow." Our lone Aussie is lonely no more, and the two dogs LOVE each other. I see Shadow as nothing less than a ministering angel who was told by God "Stand here and don't move. They'll come and get you. You'll like it here."
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your new shoe chewers, Glen, and happy New Year!
Appears Hannah gets along just fine with the new guy. That's a good sign. Ya can't replace the ones you lose, you can only add to the story they started. New chapters are magical!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the updates on your puppy. It's been a joy.
ReplyDeleteWe have six dogs of all sizes, from Chihuahua to German shepherd.
Someone once said that having a dog is a lot of really great days followed by one really bad one.
Tomorrow will be one of those really bad ones. :'(

Good luck, good lucking bunch. D
ReplyDeletemay you keep up, good to see.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! It looks like the "niglet" is ready to train a new recruit.
ReplyDeleteI'm 63. I've got my last dog.
ReplyDelete95lb, female Rottweiler. Goofy as Hell, but the most affectionate dog I've ever had. She has more personality than any 3 other dogs, and is always up for a good game of Catch, or Snuggling on my lap! Oof!
She is named after a Canadian Sitcom Character. Yarbo. It fits her.
Let the flatulence commence! Nice looking doggie. Is Hannah feeling motherly?
ReplyDeleteSounds perfect. Hope you had a great walk!
ReplyDeleteHey $ thanks for stopping by you guys! We’re off to a great start!
