I’m not a squaddie. But if you put me into the middle of a fight like that, it’s ON and it’s not over until the other guy taps out or dies or I’m dead. That kid was a combatant and letting him go only sets him up to do it again.

DeleteDad worked with a WWII vet that shot a 13 year old kid in the Hitler youth. It was kill or be killed. Didn't bother him until his own son turned 13, then the nightmares began. He almost ended it all but made it through. Easy to be a tough guy online but my guess is that vet was a dad and knew the psychic cost of killing the kid. I get both sides, but unless you are there l wouldn't be too quick to judge
DeleteIt’s not a question of judging people, it’s a question of survival and that’s it. Letting that kid go means he kills someone else; and I’m sorry, but there is no moral difference between killing him now or later. It’s just simple, brutal Darwinism. If you can’t do it you have no business volunteering for work that may call for it.

DeleteI was in Bosnia, as an MP investigating suspicious deaths of servicemembers and nationals. While on site we had a security detail of a reinforced heavy squad guarding my partner and me. We got into in town firefights with moslems and Bosnians and Chechens which were fighting each other and the children(women too) were carrying AKs and other rifles and pistols, satchel charges and IEDs and you shot them or you were dead. The first few ones tore your heart and soul out, but just the first few, after that your heart had to get hard as rock...
ReplyDeleteOne Vid I saw, soon after the rumble in Gaza began, was a jew Tank advancing in the rubble of Bombed-Out Buildings, and a Kid who looked like middle-school-age, maybe 12, jumped out in front of the Tank, which stopped. The Kid pulled the Pin on a big Thermite Grenade and threw it up on the Deck of the Tank.The Driver ran him over, but it was Too Late, the Thermite burned into the Engine and the Tank caught Fire. The Crew bailed out, the other Fighters with the Kid opened up with AK's and cut them down. The Kid had been wearing a Green Headband, of the Hamas Militia - a 'Lawful Combatant'.
