Tupperware Rifle Gen 2

Cripes a’mighty! There was nothing wrong with the Gen 1!!!

Gawd… there was nothing but nitpickery going on when the original Tupperware Rifle came out. The action was unreliable, the stock was too flimsy, the mag dump was poorly designed, this had to be tweaked, that had to be upgraded, farkles and sparkles of every type were needed to get this thing optimized … the cool kids were not impressed.

Screw them.

What a crock of weapons grade booshit! This thing is not a battle rifle and never will be. It’s not a sniper either… but close enough in capable hands. The only “problem” with it is that these guns are so accurate that they deserve good glass. We’re talking high end Swarovski, Trijicon, Nightforce, etc. You can put a cheap scope on it but you’re only doing yourself a disservice. But so much bitching, pissing and moaning went on that Roger must have felt compelled to bring this next Gen out. The only real improvement I see here is that 3 position safety. Otherwise…meh. The cool kids aren’t that impressed either so maybe next time the guys at Ruger will tell them to get stuffed!

When you mod these guns the big question has to be, “is this modification going to improve the rifle and enhance it to compete with higher end guns? Or is it just being added to make an inexpensive gun look like a higher end gun?” For me… I *might* consider a better adjustable trigger, way down the road, maybe? But man… you REALLY have to be a top tier competitor to take advantage of that. The factory trigger on my gun was a merest tad stiff on with a tiny bit of creep… but I have far bigger fish to fry before I worry about quibbles like that. All of the big problems stem from the fool behind the tool in my case.

Contrary to our vlog host, this rifle will shoot inside all but the finest ARs. And it won’t throw your brass all over hell’s half acre in the process. Our host got mediocre results but that is just preliminary, I’m sure. As it stands right now my Gen 1 is shooting a tad better but that is with tweaked hand loads.

I’ve been hemmming and hawwwwing on a bipod for this thing but…

… a good ass pack will do anything a bipod will. My goal is to move out of my old range bag and into this ass pack. It’s time to get off the bench, and go back to being a rifleman again. That means shooting off my hind feet… and this is the perfect rifle to do it with.

As Old Man du Toit used to say, “Now if you’ll pardon me, I’ll be off to the range…”. Today’s a much needed range day so poasting will be light…

Don’t say anything rotten about me in the comments while I’m gone…

  1. Pretty much any modern rifle will shoot better than most people deserve or can take advantage of. But that doesn't get you likes on jewtube, so you gotta find something to complain about. They really got to shit the bed bad before they put out an actual bad firearm, like Remington did with their fancy space pistol. Those mistakes are few and far between. So find what you like and be happy.

  3. The original Ruger M77 bolt rifle had a tang safety long before the 3 position wing safety was installed. To me, it is more natural to push the safety off as you shoulder the rifle, rather than rotate. A pair of Ruger M77s with the tang safety are still in the gun safe (6mm Remington and .338 Winchester Magnum). I never owned the more modern safety but if that is your preference - no problem.

I thought the return to the tang safety was a GOOD move. They want to change to the 3 position. Can we please choose a side ? Apparently not !!

I'm with you Filthie, leave it alone please. The only reason I don't have the bolt ranch rifle is I already have one made by Remington made during the 1970's (Model 600). It is not as pretty but plenty enough accurate. When I miss - its me, NOT the rifle ! 2.5-8x scope, but 99% of time it is left on 5x.

    1. Agreed… and ya know… while I like the 3 position safety… I can live without it. You are right on the money with tang safeties too…

  4. Say what you will, but this is the bipod I got for my Gen 2 308. Works just fine. https://www.amazon.com/AVAWO-Hunting-Rifle-Bipod-Adjustable/dp/B017IJNELC?pd_rd_w=jgSSE&content-id=amzn1.sym.97c08ff8-4f39-4f9e-b360-8dbdbec34ee6&pf_rd_p=97c08ff8-4f39-4f9e-b360-8dbdbec34ee6&pf_rd_r=X0MXHJ1NQCT3ATM1VQMS&pd_rd_wg=z4qVz&pd_rd_r=e5d94c57-ff41-4b4e-8161-d41727f14cd1&pd_rd_i=B017IJNELC&psc=1&ref_=pd_basp_d_rpt_ba_s_1_t

    1. Does that bipod allow for canting, H?

    2. Legs are adjustable, but slight canting, not so much. Didn't spend a lot of time researching, but it was the only bipod I found that would mount to that little fitting on the stock for <$200.

  6. Old Fart. Nothing wrong with those Ruger Americans. I bought a Ruger American Rimfire in .22 Mag 8 years ago. With my Pride Fowler 3x9 First Focal Plane .22 mag scope with windage and elevation .22 mag 1800 FPS 40 grain reticle ( marked out to a ridiculous 300 yards) it is a tack driver at 100 yards and will group 9 shots in one ragged hole in a 5" bullseye bipod resting. I only lack a high power bolt rifle and am seriously looking at the Ruger American.

  7. Second gen stuff sounds fine, the tester seemed doubtful about bang for the buck value. My Gen 1 was $389, pre tax and background fee. I replaced my super flimsy 1st gen stock, for a 2nd gen, regular, not compact, stock I found on Armslist. Much stiffer forend, a little heavier. My only next upgrade will be getting the AIC (?) type floor/mag channel assy, for better feeding reliability. The original, rotary mag wouldn't feed all the time. Ruger sent me a 4 round, single stack mag, it works better.
My 18" 308 Compact, shoots a couple hunting loads MOA or better. It shot none of the other 5 to 7 loads over 2 1/2". Except for 6-8" at the receiver, that 223 Ruger barrel was heavier than my pencil barrel. Recoil pad is XLNT at taming recoil and I leave the 3x9, Nikon scope on 3, unless I need to dial it up.
    It's a keeper.

    1. Tree Mike, looking for a recoil pad for the Gen 2 308. What brand do you use that is XLNT at taming?

    2. I dunno if that flimsy stock is an issue or not? It definitely isn’t for me but whadda I know? I can see recoil being an issue in these shorties… I see they’re offered in 7.62x39 Commie as well… and some of them supposedly shoot well too…

  8. What kind of scope is on that rifle? I expanded the picture to 500 but still could not tell. Hope you see this post I'm really curious.

    1. That is a Swarovski 3x10X. They don’t make these old style Z3 models anymore. Everyone deserves a Swarovski…
