Today we got up early and the Niglet and I did a subzero Dawg Patrol. -26C without the windchill so I cut the Patrol short. The Niglet is a short hair and was well ready to go back inside when she got home. It warmed up to -15C so we went out again and took a longer route later in the day. I cherish these last walks together with the Niglet as we will soon be joined by King Fergus in the new year. He’s still with his mom and doesn’t have any teeth yet. But he bit me and sucked at my fingers, so I put him back in with his mom to feed.
He’s a lot more mentally aware this week.
He already weighs 2 lbs and change. He moves around and talks a bit more
now too. I love him so much already.
But he needs more time to grow before before I sic him on fags like Cederq
and the other fiendish senior delinquents!

They will be starting him on solid food as early as next week. He still has at least 25 days before he can leave his mom. Time is so messed up in my old age - 25 days is the blink of an eye… and lasts forever depending on your relative position in it. We couldn’t stay long enough but we left too soon so the owners could get on with their day.
He really likes his new mom.

When we got back I went down into the Reclusium to sort out my thoughts. I spent my whole life saving like mad and banking because the message was always “You need at least 1 million dollars to retire” and they always ran the RRSP commercials with old grey Boomers getting into their yacht, or into their big 50 ft. pusher RV and driving off into the sunset. “You NEED that stuff! Start saving TODAY!!!”. I also thought I’d be paying for a car or a house down payment for my daughter…
But… I don’t need any of that shit! I need a good dawg, a good rifle, a car and a place to live - that’s it! If I have two dawgs and a motorcycle… I’m doing good. I don’t need people anymore either… I can take care of myself, and my dawgs’ll be fine company. Jeez… it’ll be good to have a dog team again! The only thing better than one dawg is two dawgs!
I have some leather projects sticking in my craw downstairs and I figured I’d just quit dithering and get at least one of them off my plate today. I was originally going to make some posh leather scope covers for the Tupperware Rifle but ran seriously short on talent and patience. I made the lens caps out of some old scraps, and instead of elegant artisanal buckles and straps… I niggerrigged some paracord and made a quick and dirty job of it.
I’m also making a new mag pouch carrier for the butt stock. It’ll work like those ones they had for the old M1 Carbine in WW2. That’ll give me a total of 20 rounds on the rifle with two 10 round mags. The gun leather is going to look home made but I don’t care… you learn things only by trying and I’ll make better ones next year if I’m so inclined. This stuff’ll work just fine for now. All this leather work really does - is give me something to do while the winds blow cold and make the range and camper uninviting.
We are staying warm here at Castello Di La Filthie… and I hope you are too… š
The winds are starting to blow cold…

a suggestion if I may. Give Fergus an extra week or two with his parents. it will be a lifetime for you but worth a lifetime to him.

Agreed.. You don’t want to rush something like this…. If he needs more time he will get it.
DeleteThat M1 carbine stock pouch is handy and useful. I'm sure adding to your rifle will be ell worth it.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the music, I liked this dude's version better than Niel Young: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkL4JXSK1jA
ReplyDeleteFrom up in your part of the planet too!
Hey - thanks man! šš
DeleteI'm in the same kinda spot, Filthie. Retired last year; my hands are failing me and I can't afford to replace a $100k engine compressor wheel when I drop it. It's been in the -30's here in the Frozen Freakin' North for a couple weeks... time at the reloading bench, the tying vise and just sittin in the garage with a pipe full of good flake and a mug of good coffee. I do need to get another dawg......it's been a year an a half..
ReplyDeleteI stopped listening to Neil when he went all nazi on the cooff shots. Turned out to be a real asshole.
ReplyDeleteNo nice way to say it. He’s a cnut. I loved it when he tried to tell Spotify to get on board with the maskholes or he’d pull his music from them. They laughed and told him to hit the road… and the kids stared blankly and wondered who the stupid old fart was…šš
DeleteDump (((standard))) advice to neuter them, PRONTO. Dogs should keep their junk for at least a year, to not screw up their hormone, growth development. Give them time for their proper character, personality, muscle, bone growth.
ReplyDeleteMy Malinois mutt, Thor, is now just over 3 years old. After waiting a year for growth, the wife figured out, he's not an asshole because he still has his nuts. He's a super well mannered, obedient, 90lb, intruder deterrent.
He loves his older "aunts". He treats the 60lb,12 year old with gentle love and respect. He treats his 8 year old, 35lb beagleish Aunt Maggie like his best bud, because she is. They play fight until she gets tired, pissed or hurt then she'll let him know, if he persists, she goes Tasmanian Devil on him. It sounds like a death match, but there's never any blood. Once she ignites, it's the funniest thing to see this giant Malinois ass trying to back up fast enough, while holding his head up out of the flying, flashing teeth zone and his butt and tail tucked. They started out this when he was a 10 week old cutie fluff ball. Maggie's been training him. They are also, unaccompanied patrol partners around the homestead.
The ramblings of a Tennessee hill hermit. Yeah, no I don't get out much, hence, hermit.
AND I got a .54 cal muzzle stuffer.
Neil Young is a di@k. Listen to Glen Yarbrough's version. Totally mucho better!!!
