Uggghhhh.
I didn't have a great day on the range yesterday. I shot like dirt, the Tupperware Rifle doesn't particularly like Nosler 60 gr. BT's, and it was about -15C. But... although my marksmanship stunk out the entire range... I still had a friggin hoot.
Take this data with a couple grains of salt. I assume no responsibility if you choose to use it as I have no control over how you use it… you know the drill… I had a couple called fliers, the kind where ya pull the trigger and ya know ya shit the bed before the bullet even hits the target, HAR HAR HAR!!! FFS. The Tupperware Rifle will do 1.5 MOA with Nosler 60 grain Ballistic Tips and H4895. The best load of the day came at the very maximum charge of 25.5 grains, which produced a 5 shot group of 0.655" at 100m off the bench. Average velocity was 2861 FPS with a standard deviation of 21 FPS. Not bad for a li'l carbine, eh? Brass was fine, no pressure signs on anything. Extraction was slick and easy. I could probably go up a half grain or two… if I were so inclined.
The problem is I am transitioning right now. (Fuggoff, don't say it!!!) What I mean to say is... I have spent the last year, mostly on the bench testing loads, being your average gun club duffer. Now it's time for serious work and that requires serious marksmanship... and my skills have badly atrophied as I was buggering around on the bench for so long. I need to become a Rifleman again. I need a nice low pressure practice load. I have 300 of these bullets and 9 lbs of 4895... so I have to try and find something in all that. I am not happy at running max charges in practice ammo even if they do go sub MOA in the rifle. I will keep that load in my back pocket and maybe make up 20 or 30 if I decide to take the plastic gun out for deer, or some other ignorant stubfart at the range wants to shoot for coffees, or if a match comes up.
Sooooo... I finally got off the bench and started going offhand. Out of a possible 100 I was in the low to mid 80's with the Tupperware rifle and the No.1 single shot... which is terrible for me. I don't get it... I shat the bed on the targets but used the last 8 shots of my 223 on the 100m gong and smacked it 6 or 7 times. I don't understand how the crosshairs can settle on the gong but not on the target...? Is it senility? Stupidity? Retardation?
Time to start slow dry fire drills again... and start running the log book. It’s all good.
