She's a server presenting a platter of chicken-fried steak, green beans, mashed potatoes & gravy, and a biscuit with jelly. What's to be confused about? The camera perspective making the plate look enormous?
I will say that seems larger than the average chicken-fried steak.
That, my friend, is a Texas Chicken Fried Steak! Glorious! But hold the white gravy on mine...after all, us old fat guys have to watch our cholesterol.
The steak is pounded flat to tenderize the poor cut of meat. It's probably 1/8 inch thick or even flatter. There are significant portions of that platter with just fried breading and no steak as it shrinks up some when cooked. Still, good southern cooking, depending on how good that gravy is. Get rid of the fries and green beans, double the mash potatoes, add another biscuit, then add some fried okra instead. Plenty good eating as long as you hate your own arteries.
That's a chicken fried steak, and the gravy has to be as good as it looks or the steak is no good at all. Add some okra on mine, please. More smashed 'taters and another biscuit. Oh yeah!
Remove the carbs on that plate and there'd be nothing left but a smear of grease (likely seed oils at that) and a piece of beef the dog wouldn't touch. I've eaten my share of such fixin's, but those days are long gone.
Chicken-fried steak smothered in gravy. The steak was tenderized by running it over with an F-350 with three yards of gravel in the bed.
ReplyDeleteChicken fried steak with gravy and fixin's!! Heaven on a plate.
ReplyDeleteI don know there’s some green sh*T in there but otherwise looks good to go. Oh and more biscuits.
ReplyDeleteCollards prolly.
DeleteTexas Chicken Fried Steak is the best, but hold the gravy on mine!

ReplyDeleteThat there is a huge chicken fried steak with gravy, fries, mashed spuds with more gravy, green beans, and a biscuit. Classic southron food.

ReplyDeleteDon Curton, you're a man after my own heart.
DeleteThe Chase cafe in Chase Ks. served a chicken fry that large. That was late 90s.
ReplyDeleteI’m an old fart struggling with carbs, calories and proteins… and that, to me, looks like death on a plate…!
ReplyDeleteYou hunger for beautiful, delicious, death. We all do.
DeleteThat will cleanse your soul, cure what ails ya & keep the country from losing the war.

That, my friend, is heaven on a plate. Gravy needs more pepper, though.
ReplyDeleteThat's the chicken fried steak challenge at Kendall's Restaurant in Noble, Oklahoma:
