That’s what the cool kids called the Billy-goating rock hoppers when I was a kid. That was back when the first bikes with front end suspension and disc brakes were coming out. We used to live on bikes when we were kids. It was cheap entertainment and a great way to stay in shape. I used to work for the Alberta Research Council and bounced between Nisku and Devon just south of town. Because we lived in Little Bangladesh (Millwoods) - if I left early I could ride to work.
The murderous part of that trip was coming home through the little bedroom community of Beaumont. There’s a big bejeezus hill through it and at the very top there’s a big bejeezus Catholic Church that imperiously views the prairies for miles below. It’s quite the view but the trip up that hill on a bike leaves you just blown by the time you get to the top.
It’s probly a good thing because if your heart explodes on the way up… the cemetery’s only a stone’s throw away! HAR HAR HAR!!!
😂👍
There’s so many morons on the road now though… I doubt cycling on those roads today is all that safe.
When I lived in Madison, WI you could ride just about anywhere in the city and be safe. The biggest hazard was getting doored. That said, I got knocked off my bike one fine summer afternoon by a dingbat who was looking left and turning right. I avoided serious injury, and settled with her insurance company for $500. I should have held out for six, but what the heck.
ReplyDeleteColumbus, OH is not bicycle friendly. One of my neighbors can ride, and has ridden all over the country - bicycle camping, it's called. He taught me a few things about staying alive on a bicycle.
Then there's the time I was headed over to Mike's and driving the beltway. I-270 turned into a parking lot, and everyone wanted the left lane. We passed the accident at ten mph, stop and go. One pickup, two cars, and three crotch rocket motorcycles were involved, with one bike being reduced to spare parts scattered over several hundred yards of highway pavement. Two meat wagons and a half dozen cop cars were trying to bring order from chaos.
So - no motorcycle riding for me, although I'd really like to ride.
IDK, some of the video might be AI. Or not, hard to tell.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been on a bicycle since I was maybe 14. That's when I started driving a truck. Never go backwards in life. And I damn sure didn't do that offroad stuff. The bike was to carry my ass all over town to visit friends and go shoot snakes in the drainage ditches outside of town.
