The Feminine Arts

None of the womenfolk in my circles indulged in art like this.
Wouldn’t all that detail be lost as the pie bakes?

  1. The wife does pies like that, the pastry puffs up a bit and darkens a bit but still looks good.

    1. I’d love to see one! I’m not a big pie and sweets fan … but I love the smell of them as they bake too…

  2. I would bet my X sister in law could and would do that. Damn, she made a pecan praline that was to die for. She made a second one for my father in law, I would always start carrying it out to the truck, but I loved my father in law, great man

  4. I don't know... My Aunt Gerri used to make a straight-money mincemeat pie for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Absolutely the real thing, and it was excellent!

  6. That is amazingly intricate and impeccably executed craft. I would hesitate to put a knife to it, but I guess that is just me.

I have acquired four lovely quinces, and plan on baking yet another honey-poached quince pie for Thanksgiving, but am under no illusions about being capable of making such an artful and lovely crust. I don’t dare even to aspire to that. But that merely means that there will be no hesitation in laying into it with a knife and pie server when the time for dessert rolls around. Mmm…
