A point of order that needs to be clarified on this blog is my stance on Glock pistols. The unvarnished truth of it is that anyone whose seen what these reasonably priced guns can do - in the hands of someone who knows how to use them - understands the value, practicality and security these lower priced guns offer. Notice I used the term “inexpensive” and not cheap. There is a huge difference between the terms. Only a hare lipped retard stubfart Fudd could deny their practically and suitability for the security minded free citizen. Now that I have presented my credentials, perhaps it puts my scholarly opinions in perspective…?
HAR HAR HAR 😂👍
My problem with the Glock right now is that if I shot one…I’d probably like it! And want one! It wouldn’t go over with the other crusty old boomerfags and fossils at the rod n’ gun club that I run with! HAR HAR HAR! The problem is… it’s probably too late! I’ve already lost my heart and fallen madly in love with the Ruger American ranch rifle. It’s a dirt cheap inexpensive rifle that shoots like a house on fire and is drop dead reliable. In 223 it is an absolute hoot to shoot. If that isn’t enough, the little carbine is women and kid friendly. I will bet Glock pistols are much the same. I don’t think it matters which generation or what kind of farkles the individual Glock has… I’ll bet they’re all good IF you’re willing to put in the time to be proficient with them. Just like any gun really. May God, St. Cooper and St. Browning forgive me my heresy!
This renaissance in the gun world - of inexpensive, good guns proliferating on the market - is mirrored in the knife world. I’ve got a blade fetish and I adore the big fighters and elegant folders crafted by inspired artisans in small batches with exclusive price tags. Buuuuuuuuut…
That’s a Mora knife - with a moulded plastic sheath. Around $30~$40 bucks here in Soviet Canukistan. Couple years ago I took it out and beat the hell out of it on camping trips and then threw it back into my plunder without resharpening it. I rediscovered it gathering dust down in the Reclusium so I brought it upstairs and touched him up. He just glided through my breakfast tomaters with easy elegance and grace. It’s like those beshitted Glocks and Ruger Tupperware rifles… the damned things are impossible not to love!
😡
Compounding the hell of it: more expensive knives are getting into ever more exotic and harder steels. Sure… those beauties and heart throbs will hold their edges… but when they inevitably and eventually lose them… they can be a total PITA to strop up again! My old Leatherman uses CPM S30V steel… and that chit will not sharpen off a regular whetstone… unless ya got 100 years to waste with it! Or fuggin D2 tool steel… ughhhhh!!! Trying to sharpen these bastid steels forged in hell …. It gives me PTSD and road rage just thinking about it!!!
Fortunately I learned a hack - which, I suppose, shoulda been obvious: I broke out some 350 grit sand paper to those asshole blades…and that fixed them up just fine! Once ya get the nicks out and the angle re-established, you can start the hone and polish process by incrementally going up to the finer grits…but it IS a process.
What a strange market that’s emerging, eh? Good knives and guns are getting ever more inexpensive. Hopefully optics will follow suit soon.

I really enjoy shooting my Glock 19. Particularly the short trigger reset. Happy Thanksgiving from west Texas!
ReplyDeleteWell how could ya NOT enjoy shooting them? Hope you and yours had a great Thanksgiving Tex! Thanks for stopping in!
DeleteCan you even buy a handgun anymore, the feds stopped imports so you are unlikely to get it cheap.
ReplyDeleteExile1981
I dunno, E? Can’t remember if Turdo La Doo got them banned or not? If so I’d just buy one off the black market - and fuck the liberal gun grabbers….
DeleteDid you see carnies bs pipeline promise. We have to raise carbon taxes by april, the feds don't have to let us build it fir a decade and BC still gets a veto on it
DeleteIts a fake promise to try and lower the temp in the provinces political oven.

Good posting. When I got my G19 in '91, I think it was $500ish. Currently, I think they're still well below $600US, 34 years later.
ReplyDeleteGet one, they don't spoil like 1911s, Lugers, Browning HPs. and all that other wood and steel stuff.
Palmetto State Armory, Dagger pistol. Except for som cosmetic and ergonomic variables (improvements), it is an Austrian clone. Reasonably priced, high interchangeability. Low cost enough when you catch a sale, you would buy more than one.
ReplyDeleteDon't shoot a Tisas. I have 2 of their .1911's and they are spectacular for the money.
ReplyDeleteAnony
DeleteFrom 2022 on, all their 1911's are forged frame, slide. barrel, everything else is milled steel, except the recoil spring plug, which is MIM.
Before 2022, they were forged frame, slide, barrel with MIM other parts.
They are very high quality firearms.
I've used sandpaper - works better (for me) for chisels than knives. Nothing against it though. I too used to be a "multiple grits" guy too. But you need only two, plus a strop. And good diamond stones can be had for not a lot of money now. If you're curious, check out Outdoors 55 on YouTube. He has the real scoop on sharpening.
ReplyDelete- Mr. Mayo
Some of the cheaper knives are actually better - the rest is just hype. Mora knives are really good.
ReplyDeleteThere's plenty of plastic fantastic out there. I got the S&W Shield and it's good enough for me as a carry gun. Nothing special and not my favorite range toy, but it always puts the bullets where I want them to go. Glock may have started the trend, but there's lots of good options on the market.
With Smith and Wesson, you can get a plastic, fantastic with a safety and a grip safety. Wish my Glock had those additional features. Yet I STILL haven't accidentally or negligently shot anyone. It's a wonder!
DeleteOn your high end blades using premium steel, try a ceramic sharpener. The key is to use it maintain the edge rather that re-establish an edge. You'll save time and be less frustrated.
ReplyDeleteFilthy, I have many friends who own and swear by Glocks and LOVE them. They are a fine gun and because they are lighter guns, many women really like them as well.
ReplyDeleteMy advice is go shooting with friends with Glocks and bring the ammo and have them let you shoot their Glocks and see if you like them.
Me, they are accurate and all but I just don't LIKE them. I shot my buddy's Glock 45 then my Colt 45 and I just LIKE my Colt and the way it handles and shoots.
Now if you are carrying all of the time, due to the lower weight a Glock would be a fine pack gun and that gun will usually only be fired in an emergency and then who cares how it feels when you shoot it ?
Yup. I know any number of guys with them too. I am just running my mouth against them to be a dink, and partly because I’m an old Fudd that likes classic guns. But… for concealed guns I’m really liking that Sig P365.
DeleteLife's too short to fuck around with striker fired guns, yet that's what I carry. For competition and fun it's hammer fired all the way.
