Y’know when I was a kid drunk driving was the moral panic of the day that was gonna kill us all and especially all the children!!! Pompous officials and politicos were always grandstanding in the news with hysterical Karen’s about how tough they were gonna get tough on drunk drivers. I just laughed and thought nothing of it because they were never going to catch me. I was too smart… or so I thought at the time. Somehow I never got caught although a few friends got pinched.
Nowadays you (or at least, I) - don’t hear any of the self righteous shrieking going on about drunk drivers anymore. There used to be formal advocacy groups like Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) that came swarming out of the woodwork on holidays and long weekends. That’s all they did! Bitch at everyone…

Now…? I don’t hear anything much about drunk drivers anymore. Mind you - I’ve completely turned off the local mass media. And I’ve pretty much given up drinking at all. The issue fell off my radar…I wonder if the normies still fret about it…?
I’m not saying we all need to go back to the days of the Mad Men and keep a case of road rockets in the back seat and a quart in the glove box… but it is funny how moral panics come and go.
They gave up when "legal weed" became the current thing. Now more people are out there driving stoned out of their minds than there ever were drunks on the road.

I’m probably one of only six people in Canada that doesn’t smoke weed. Even as a dumb kid in high school I never had any use for pot. If I’m gonna smoke… it’s cigars and that’s it!

Oh gawd… not me! That poor sod has probably had to scrape drunks and kids off the pavement and guard rails, or tell the next of kin afterward. I doubt he’d have anything good to say about any of it…!

ReplyDeleteYou don't hear much about drunk driving because in most fatal accidents caused these days by drunk drivers, the drunks are illegal aliens.
