The New Kid On The Block

Round here tools seem to have their day in the sun with the cool kids… and then the fickle finger  of fashion points them somewhere else. 20 years ago it was DeWalt. Then it was Makita, then it was someone else and now I think it’s Milwaukee.

And clearly - they aim to stay in the lead in the industry.

  1. We started with Makita, when they had foot long batteries and handles. Then to DeWalt. We were never the cool kids. Well, the wife has always been cool, but not "in" with the cool kids, they didn't measure up. She's not a groupie of ANY kind. She's developed great disdain and disgust with the"rulers, their minions, tag-a-longs" and their powers and principalities.

  2. 40+ years ago it was Hilti, Milwaukee was in there too, both were corded or air powered. Then Makita showed up with a cordless (low voltage… 6v? 8v?)… DeWalt sprung to life and hung on for a while until their replacement batteries became so expensive it was cheaper to jump ship for the improved Makita. Milwaukee grabs the high end specialty cordless stuff (see their Pex A low end version at $500).

  3. Pretty sure they are all made in the same Chinese factory and they just slap a different color plastic wrapper on there for whatever brand they are shipping that week. You want cool? Get yourself some estate sale stuff - Craftsman power tools from the 60's and 70's, some of the old Black and Decker stuff before they shit the bed.

    1. Right as usual, Don. There is no money in reliability or product quality anymore…😞

  4. I hate big, clunky batteries. Like dancing with a pretty girl that wears orthopedic shoes.
