Thanksgiving Ramble: Happy Late Fall Festival

OR: Ya Get What Ya Pay For

Time for the wife’s fall wreath!

That’s what some woketard faggotified corporation calls it now. “Late Fall Festival” - otherwise known as Thanksgiving to evil old White men like Yours Truly. GAH! The older I get, the less tolerance I have! But eff those people; from here in the deep, foul unplumbed profundity beneath Castillo Di La Filthie… a Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

“The Mechanic” - the furtive and secretive international
concierge of crime from Blab - wanted by the CIA, NKVD and MI6…
advises me that evil forces have discovered my secret lair… the  Reclusium where I
hatch my fiendish plots and plans. They are moving against me as we speak -
So I will be moving soon - preferably to the dank, fetid, sulphurous
bowels of an extinct volcano beside Phil and Cederq…

So today I am knocking around the Reclusium, and going through my archived Spamatoria seeking new ideas on how to get in trouble without costing money or going to jail.

Hrmmmmmm….

I always mounted my scopes by guess and by golly
and sometimes I get it right and I’m good out to 300m.
That’s farther than I need to shoot in the real world and
I get good enough groupings I suppose.

Grant is at least an armourer and possibly a full blown smith - and he works with serious guns. No reason why I shouldn’t be able to do the same, right? Right now I have an irritating problem with the Ruger Tupperware Rifle: I can set the scope up just fine for offhand shooting, but when I tuck into the sitting and prone positions I start creeping the stock back and forth trying to get proper eye relief. I started buggering around with the scope position but can’t go far enough forward with the existing low rings. I need to order in some mid high rings to get the clearances I need. But - I can use what I learnt here and hopefully get the fuggin scope level once and for all!

Errrr - sorry for the mess! My evil minions, Pete F and The Village
Hemhorroid were doing grenade practice down here…

I African-Engineered a plumb bob with some twine and a bottle of Hoppes…

And this was where I got my real education in scope mounting. There’s a reason the guys at Leupold are charging $200.00 for a set of scope rings! 🀬

Parallax is deceiving in this pic - the front ring is as level as I can
get it in my Ukranian rifle jig…

This is the rear scope ring…
The scope base is probly a cheap POS too…

There is going to be some torque on the scope tube fer shur…

Holy chit!
Off topic… but I can see my toes again! This diet is doing the trick!
HAR HAR HAR!!!
Only 40 more pounds to go!

Well.. I got the scope’s crosshairs pretty level, all things considered. I don’t have perfectly level, ISO 9002 calibration grade work surfaces here, and to be honest…for a stubfart gun club hack like me… I need to hit a deer in the chest at 200m. The Tupperware Rifle is not a precision rifle shooting out to 1000 yards… but it CAN approach MOA accuracy out to 200m. Haven’t tried it at 300m yet… but out there the wind starts pushing the little boolits around, and higher magnification scopes are usually required to shoot well out there. That is beyond my mission parameters, so to speak.

But the exercise has given me an appreciation for the “scope mounting services” down at ye Olde Gun Shoppe: the $5.00 winners down there are not going to true up rings like this with a few swipes of emery cloth! Nor am I for that matter… but there’s a reason my scope rings cost $60.00… ya get what ya pay for…
😞

My local smith is a rifle maker. He machines his own precision actions from bar steel and uses top notch match barrels, and then drops them into the funky “chassis” systems. By the time he’s finished, your custom built precision rifle is anywhere between $8000.00 and $15,000 depending on the bells, whistles and farkles that the customer wants. Chit gets real when you’re shooting out at 1000 yards with the big dogs. A set of $200 scope rings are chump change to those guys.Their barrels are burned out after 1500 rounds.

I guess I get to do it all over again this week when my higher scope rings come in. Oh well - as my friends know all too well… my time isn’t worth nothing anyways!

Thanks fer stopping in… do something fun today!

Cheers!
