  2. While this is good news (and pretty much what I said on one of your earlier posts), the Achilles Heel to all this is whether Smith and her party can stay in charge. Because if the NDP ever get the government in Alberta again, you can bet this will all change. Won't even matter who the provincial police are at the time.

I'm still waiting to see if the rumours I'd heard awhile back are true and Carney actually uses the Canadian Army to collect firearms from civilians under the 'Aid to Civil Power' clause. Carney just gave the CAF a 20% raise and I don't think it's so they can keep screwing around in Latvia. If anyone thinks dealing with cops over this is bad, well....wait until some 22 year old master corporal on a power trip shows up at your door with a couple of his heavily armed buddies asking for your guns.

I hope it's bullshit, but I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't. Carney likely knows, thanks to the fallout from the Emergencies Act hearings, that if he does use the military to do this, nothing will happen to him and nothing will be done about it. I really don't think something like this is anywhere near being beneath someone like Carney or any of those shitlib bastards.

    1. If I read Carney right, he’s a do-nothing, don’t -rock-the-boat, politician. He want’s to fill his pockets, pay off his cronies and fart catchers, and pose as a big wheel at photo ops. He wants to fly under the radar, not call too much attention to himself and try not to make too many waves. The grifts and cons are his main priorities.
Sending the military after gun club duffers and duck hunters would infuriate the shit out of the west and I can tell you - the non-compliance will be massive. It’ll be easier for him and everyone else to just shrug and back down.
Regardless… if some 22 year old CAF Superman soldier somehow manages to get all my guns… I’ll just grab something off the black market or smuggle one up from the States.

    2. Glen, I think you underestimate Carney. Sure, he seems benign because he's not locking horns with Trump like the boomer shitlib voters thought he would. But, Carney DID write an op-ed for the Globe and Mail, basically complaining that the federal government didn't go far enough in dealing with the Freedom Convoy and that he would have gone much further. I agree that Carney has his own grift of sorts (Brookfield), but I think it's important to remember that he was basically installed as PM to oversee and ensure that certain things got done. I think Carney has the capacity to be incredibly ruthless when it comes to achieving certain goals and if he is serious about these gun bans, this wouldn't be an exception.

You're also right in that pulling such a stunt in the west would absolutely infuriate people here. But what could be done to stop it, if it happened? Who could stop them? The Emergencies Act and all the bullshit the feds pulled during the Freedom Convoy pissed off alot of people too, but even though it was deemed unjustified in a Federal Court, nothing happened to anyone because of it. Unfortunately, these people realize that they can pretty much do whatever they want to anyone and because our system and society are impotent and defanged, they'll get away with it.

Usually, the CAF is not deployed domestically (Aid to Civil Power) unless the feds get a request for military assistance from the Province. But individual provinces have no jurisdiction of any kind over the CAF; in fact, the military is one of the only mechanisms the feds have exclusive control of. Outside the FLQ crisis in the 70's when Trudy Sr. exercised the War Measures Act, the CAF has never been deployed on Canadian soil for a domestic operation of this nature. So this is uncharted territory. People might think deploying the army for gun confiscation would be a step too far, but then again, people also thought the government would never weaponize banks and freeze people's money. But look what happened. That's why I'm wondering if this is one of the reasons why Smith is hammering through the Sovereignty Act. I wonder if she anticipates a move such as this (or worse) and is trying to create legislation to prevent it.

Like I said, I really hope this is bullshit because I don't even want to think about how drastically these idiots would overreact if the worst happened and some law abiding civilian who didn't want to give up his private property got into a shootout with Canadian soldiers on home soil.

Either way, we are going to find out very soon what their plan is because they are supposed to be starting whatever it is they have planned in PEI within the next few weeks.

    3. I'm hoping you're right Glen, but I'm siding with JL on this.
Sure, the Ruling Powers are lazy/energetic, stupid/smart, but never underestimate their ability cause rage, hate, despair, disaster and misery in short order. Don't forget "to never let a crisis go to waste, do something evil!" I may have paraphrased a little.
Some advice I heard long ago, from one of my LEO buddies (the one that bought my Sp1, Colt carbine in 1999 for $1500) was "Never go to crime scene B, even if you get killed at crime scene A, it's better than going to crime scene B, where your death will be MUCH worse". My conclusion: There are MANY things worse than death, in this world, that I will avoid with extreme effort. My "Hereafter" is covered, so I'm good.
      ymmv
