Kirk's assassination for the Conservatives was hard on them, and having Kimmel grin and gloat over that was affecting ABC network bottom line. Kimmel had no 1st amendment right taken away - he could say anything he wanted, just with no microphone. Just like the 99.99% of others who do not have public TV show to express our views.
