Don’t Cry For Me Argentina is an intensely emotional and powerful song and unique in that only a woman could pull it off with the aplomb that it deserves. It came up in a deep dive into Evita Peron. I was trying to get a sense of who she was beyond the popular narrative when I came across this. I’ve never heard of Benedetto Caretta. She knocked Argentina outta the park…but does a face plant in this one where she’s yodelling and ululating aboot a Desert Rose.

What in hell is she singing about? When you use the term “Desert Rose” I automatically think of one a these:

The Desert Rose is an improvised urinal  popular with 

the squaddies in Iraq during the Sandbox Wars.

Who’s the bloody Sasquatch that made that one? Tiny? It has to be; it’s too damn tall! A regular sized guy’d have to aim high to do his business! It’s the same problem out at the li’l chapel out in the country: whoever installed the pissoire mounted it so high that I need a step stool to use it! The other one is mounted too low and I get splash back on my Crocs and ankles if I use it. I’ve complained and told the Elders but they’re all big apes too! I suppose I have two options: the sink… or maybe a properly constructed Desert Rose behind the dumpster outside.

Ah yes - the talented young lady singer! I think she might be worth setting up a playlist for? She may or may not be a versatile singer - but when she plays to her strengths, she is in her element. She’s worth a listen if you have the time.
