Puppets

I’m still laughing about Elmo and Grok becoming self-aware sentient Nazis. My question is - how hard was that to do? Do ya just flip a few lines of code and that’s it? Or does it require a massive re-write? 

100 years ago Pop began to lose his marbles. He’d flip out at the drop of a hat and become enraged or sad and sometimes he just zoned out altogether. And my mom, she’d just make it worse with her fuggin hysterics. It was a shit show for a 16 year old. It took the tall foreheads about a year to sort Pop out. He had a brain chemistry imbalance where a had a shortage of a couple milligrams of something and maybe a couple of mg too much of something else - and in the end they sussed and sorted it all out and he was right as rain. I think his prescription pills cost a couple bucks a month. It was a couple years of outright hell caused by imbalances measured in milligrams … grains of dust… Then Mom hit menopause and I moved out before somebody got murdered.

I wonder if it’s the same way for AI… where all it takes is a little tweak, and suddenly Grok wants to make jews into soap? And Elmo hates queers? It must be - because both AIs flipped out so suddenly - and then recovered equally suddenly. We live in the Age Of The Puppet. In seconds Jim Henson could go from being Kermit the Frog to the Cookie Monster… and now the guys handling the AIs can go from Joseph Goebbels to being your flirty girlfriend in … seconds? Hours?

And before ya know it… we ourselves become the puppets.
