Apparently the Philippinos played war using 1860's grade medical treatment and whole lot of them ended up with amputations. Thus the need for a knife that could be opened with only one hand. Thus the so-called butterfly knife, the king of flea market cheap-ass low grade steel knives that couldn't cut fucking butter. It served as a fidget spinner for Gen X - everyone I knew had one back in the day and we'd sit around all day just twirling those stupid knives. I can't recall ever actually using one as a knife to cut something. The old Buck lockblade handled real knife chores.
