yeah, I remember back when you could still get one for less than a 100 bucks, Mausers where a bit more depending on the model. last good deal was a Mauser 1893 for 200 or so. converted to 7.62 NATO great shape and good shooter too. after I cut 6 inches off the barrel.
Gun rags are not the same as they were back in the 60's - 70's - 80's when I was a teenager. Shooting Times - Peterson's Hunting - Gun & Ammo had some good writers, now sadly passed away. What I read in supermarket is no where as entertaining and enlightening as they were back then. I'm old I guess.

I remember when I was a kid plopping down somewhere out of the way with a stack of Shotgun News. Those were the days.
