You can’t change people. They will believe what they want to believe and most will kill you or die trying to change you if they can. I learned all this the hard way - by being in the middle of the tiny battles and feuds I was invited to. There’s never any winners, there’s no heroes… only the next Current Thing to fight about. The only applicable part of this demotivational meme to me is maybe that last pic. The fella giving a puppy to his son… except he shoulda had two: one for the kid and one for himself!

Even there - he won’t change anything. The only answer to stupid times, people and places is to be somewhere else. And perhaps the most valuable skill - is that of not giving a hoot. Life gets a lot easier when you realize you can’t change stupid people. All you can do is protect yourself if you can… and watch the pie fight from as far away as possible.
My thoughts exactly. I've accepted that I'm to old, fat & gimped up to be part of any offensive tactical matters anymore. I am now concentrating on just defensive matters for family & home. This year we have prepared the largest garden I have done in many years. And I will be relearning how to properly preserve by hot bath canning, of which I have not done for 15 years or more.
ReplyDeleteI have gotten to the point that I don't trust any news from any source from the left, center or right. It's all propaganda. As I have always said, it's just the flip side of the same coin. I will do my best to take care of my own small clan for as long as I can. The future belongs to the younger generations, not to us old farts.

ReplyDeleteI’m only 1-1 1/2 years away from full retirement in Costa Rica on a beautiful and sustainable small farm (20 acres) way out in the hills with beautiful weather and only 2 hrs from the capital city of San Jose. Been planning for it over 15 years and it finally is nearing. In my late 60’s now and just hoping for the best. I’m sick of politics and weirdos and traffic and all the BS. Wish me luck! DG

ReplyDeleteMen of our age, know how to fix things, knows how things work, why they took shop classes away, why they pushed young men to go to college to be reprogrammed and work in pussy fields. Why they destroyed families and initiated one parent families, you can't teach jr. how to repair your car, the lawn mower, can't have him reasoning and using his thinking skills which once planted in jr. will grow and expand. They can't have that. Don't get me started on the feminization of women, they bought into it more deeply and fervently than men did and wanted to show they are strong and independent and didn't realize they were by putting forth the effort to foster and raise the next generation, give them skills and teach them to cope with a cruel world. You can't be more independent and strong as that! Independence from petty politicians, from a tyranny that is growing and enveloping us where we can't be independent. As I said many times, don't get me started, I will not get off that soapbox.
