I mowed lawns and baby sat plus worked night shift on front desk at the parents business. My 1st job for a non family owned business was washing down videos returned to the xxx video store.
I mowed lawns as soon as I was able to push a lawnmower. $1.50 to $2.00 per lot. I had an extra large basket on my bicycle just for collecting bottles. 2 cents per bottle.
'Sure did! Many a baseball, hockey puck, and box of bait did that money buy! The county was putting sewers in our neighborhood. The construction zone was about a mile long for each segment. We used to pull a wagon up one side of the zones and down the other. The hardhats knew us after a few trips and would drop their bottles into our wagon. Those sewers were a BONANZA for us!!!
Of course it is how I kept gas in my motorcycle until i got a real job at 12.
