Ugggghhh. I guess that in addition to being a dangerous hu-white christian racist/homophobe/sexist/nationalist/great-big-dink... I am becoming an ageist now. I am not going to waste time griping about this one because he's not one of my monkeys, but he's just fricken typical of the the breed: he's a geezer, he's lost all touch with reality and FFS - he needs to go out to pasture. I suppose it's tough to say whether geezer men are worse than geezer women or vice versa... what with lunatics like Pelosi and Maxine and Liz Warren and Liz Cheney... but I can forgive the women a bit. They gotta put up with rampaging hormones all through their lifespan and brain chemistry is real. You change one little aspect of the stew of chemicals in the human brain box - and you can easily end up with a person that shits their pants, thinks nothing of immorality, incompetence and grift, and will happily burn down the world to spite their enemies or get an ice cream cone. The brain is like any other organ... when it gets old things begin to fail. And its different for everyone. My old boss was sharp as a tack all through his 80s. Sure - he had his quirks. When he came to Edmonton we had a dusty old electric typewriter set aside for him and if he needed something done on the computer I had to do it for him... and I am far from being a computer geek. But other than harmless stuff like that he was a hell-on-wheels businessman and I respected that.
Years ago our rod and gun club execs were all geriatrics. They started out club back in the late 60's, maybe early 70's - and they did one helluva job. They were retired, they ran our club like a Swiss watch and the younger guys like me only had to go out once in awhile on work parties to clear fallen timber or do some minor heavy lifting they couldn't do anymore. Even then, they were fun to be around.
But... they just timed and miled out, eventually. Their erratic behaviour became noticeable, and then it became a problem. They decided one day that holsters were dangerous on the pistol range so they banned them. The trap range head got in a fight with the rifle range head and the next thing ya know, our centrefire rifle range got shut down on bogus technical safety concerns. Hell's bells - you could safely fire friggin artillery at on that range... but the tall foreheads and red tape smooth brains had to get involved and it was a couple months before that got sorted out. Other smaller things weren't getting done, internecine fights and back stabbing ramped up - and they people in charge didn't care. They were the ones in charge and made sure we all knew it. The exec meetings were gong shows. Everyone was pissed, members were quitting and one day the word came down the pipe: they were all getting replaced, and if you wanted to put an end to the BS - you had a list of guys to voat for in the next club elections. When the elections came up the geezers all got voated out by a landslide and the new guys went to work and things instantly began to change for the better. I have only been to two club meetings and one of them was to cast my votes to get rid of them.
Afterward, the old boys sat around looking stupidly about, wondering how it had happened. Some had given 20 years or more to the club, serving admirably for most of that time. I thought I'd be happy to see those pig ignorant stubborn, stupid sons a bitches given the punt... but I felt only sorrow. Some of them actually shed tears. I got it too... in their later years that club was their life.
I wonder if America isn't at the same point?
Yeah, we had the same thing happen at our ham radio club. Ham radio tends to attract geezers to start with, so the club already had one strike against it. We had a really good president; a really old guy, but sharp as a tack; a retired nuclear physicist. He died and the Vice took over and was eventually elevated to President. The old president spent YEARS reviving the club after internal squabbles caused it to empty out like a theater on fire. The new guy started off bad and doubled down on it as he went. Then his diabetes started attacking his brain. He started going off on me and a couple of other guys for "hogging" the repeater, when there wasn't anyone using it other than us. I bailed after writing a nastygram to the new vice president, who knew what happened, knew it was wrong, and said nothing in our defense. All she did was make excuses for the president's behavior; the diabetes in his brain. Everyone knew he was mentally diminished, but said nothing and did nothing. ...This is how organizations die...
ReplyDeleteAs for America, us older folks are the only ones left who care about the place, but our ranks are thinning faster than my hair. The ones who are left are drifting in to the "geezer zone," and are becoming a part of the problem. As for McConnel, let's just say that it's no accident that Old Turtlehead is wearing a BLUE necktie...
as an “ american”,
ReplyDeleteliving in east asia 20 years, I kinda agree with you filth E
only, maybe, i’d expand it to include
Every nation.

WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN AT WAR WITH EASTASIA!..1984
Delete"...us older folks are the only ones left who care about the place".
ReplyDeleteFfs...I hate to paint an entire generation in broad strokes, but THIS kind of navel gazing, self righteous horseshit is EXACTLY why younger people can't fucking stand boomers. I don't know if you noticed there skippy, but take a look at Trump's cabinet picks and the other people he brought on to right the ship: vast majority of them are Gen Xers. Some are even younger. So, you think THOSE people don't "care about the place"? Seems to me, they're wasting no time in cleaning up the mess the 'older folks' spent decades making while lining their pockets with OUR Money...all while the rest of the older folks like yourself 'voated harderer' for those same scumbags and carried on, completely oblivious to where that would all lead. I'll tell you something else: it'll BE the younger generation that cleans this mess up. It's already starting to happen, all while the fucking boomers reminisce their 'glory days' - of course offering no helpful suggestions on how to help clean up the mess they selfishly made (because they have none) - instead preferring to bitch about the 'young'uns' with their heads lodged firmly up their arses.
You're right though..."our ranks are thinning faster than my hair". Yeah, that aint a bad thing. Because a considerable amount of the older folks aren't 'part' of the problem: you ARE the fucking problem.
Some of us are gen X......

Yes and no, JL. What were we supposed to do? You saw what happened when you stood up to the Covid nonsense. People you’d worked with for years turned on you and tried to destroy you. 35 years ago I nearly went to jail for the crime of spanking my kid for being a monkey in class and refusing to shape up. By the time I was ostracized by my family for refusing the jab I didn’t care anymore.
DeleteThe world wasn’t going to listen to Pete and I any more than they will listen to you. And Gen X are no saints - look at Turdo and his retinue of fart suckers. It would be like me as a Boomer blaming you for voting for Turdo, and blaming you personally as a cop for not putting him in jail.
Looking back at ourselves with 20/20 hindsight… yeah… we could have done better, maybe? I know I personally walked away from so many fights with seriously shitty people that I thought were friends and family… in hopes of keeping the peace. We all did. It’s what adults did, back in an age when we were all better people living in better times.
The time is going to come when we are ALL going to have to give a shit and care about what’s going on again. We’re going to need guys like Pete and yourself sooner rather than later.
I'm going by what I see and hear every day, hearing people say "I don't watch the news" and I really don't care about politics." And these people aren't "fucking Boomers." They're Millennials and beyond, caring more about whether the local coffee shop has free WiFi than the fact that our country is going off a cliff. As far as me being "the fucking problem," I'll keep it short and sweet; KMA, "JL..."
Delete“Gen X” here, whatever that’s supposed to mean. I believe it’s just more BS to divide people. After all, where & who invented these “Gen” labels. C-nuts are C-nuts no matter when they were born.
DeleteI haven’t watched commercial TV or the news for 25 years or so now. Can’t stand it. My Boomer parents can’t believe I won’t watch the news. I will not argue with the TV, as it’s not listening and does not care. . . . Though with the new “SMART TVs” that might not be the case.

Cocaine Mitch will follow the same path as Feinstein. Remain in office as long as he can, carted around in a wheelchair, unaware of where he is, what he's doing, will to be told/coached by staffers, "just say 'yes'" as did Feinstein in her last votes on issues. As others have said, 'Congress isn't intended to be a Senior Care Facility.'
