Found from a pile of plunder…
I even still have the charger…
Ughhhhh. I thought it got pitched or lost long ago. Part of me wants to throw it away for some reason. I’m on a perfectly fine old iPhone 12 now and I use it. To me that thing is far too powerful a tool to ignore… but I hear the oldsters that complain that we are so glued to our phones that we can’t see the world. Part of me wants to throw the iPhone away.
An interesting discussion about cell phones came up on OyTube…
There’s a LOT of things that’ll never be talked about after that debacle. They were interviewing that fat dyke fire chief and it still makes me want to kill someone. The first thing she did was try and pass the buck. “It isn’t my fault there was no water pressure in the fire hydrants!!!”
Well, sorry, you bloated carpet munching F-tard… but yes, it sure the hell is! It’s your responsibility to make sure your teams have the basic tools for the bloody job! But that’ll be the way of it. Most likely all the fingers will point at Blumpfff for not waving his magic wand and making all the problems disappear. If scalps DO get taken… the Donks will blame some low level flunky and offer him up for sacrifice. It’s the way those guys roll.
But I digress. When the house of cards falls… a lot of the toys we take for granted are not going to work. There’s more to prepping than stockpiling beer and popcorn.
Maybe a couple of those Baofengs might make sense.
I'm one of those old farts who STILL HAS A CB IN MY CAR! As the guy in the video said, I find these things at yard sales for PENNIES. A few months back, I hit an estate sale right as it was folding up and found a box with a CB and a few microphones in it. After "paying the lady" five bucks for the lot and heading home, I found that my "fiver" bought me a "Galaxy Pluto" "export" CB that covered AM/Single Sideband (SSB) AND FM! "Export" means the radio was never intended to end up in the USA. FM CB is legal now in the USA, but wasn't when this one made its way here. The thing is worth over $250.00 US as-is! The microphones were good, solid, "trucker quality" mics as well.
ReplyDeleteThe install on my car is permanent, as I use the radio every work day during my commute. My wife has a magnetic mount antenna and a CB that she can plug into the "cigarette lighter" plug thrown in the trunk. It can be set up and on the air in about three minutes. I've also got a box full of "handout" CB's to give out to others if needed. Many of these things were picked up for a dollar or two. A couple of them were FREEBIES. Two or three of the radios in that box are new-in-box.
When the SHTF, cell service is going to go bye-bye. Here in California even a minor earthquake will render cell phones nothing more than expensive flashlights. I've personally experienced this. Radio, on the other hand, will still work. Anyone even semi-serious about being prepared should have AT LEAST a CB or some "FRS" radios in the kit. Better yet, get your ham license.
Baofengs are OK, as long as you realize that paying $25.00 for a brand new radio lands you a brand new radio that's worth $25.00. I'm also a ham. I'm not being a "radio snob." I've actually got a few Baofengs myself, again, as "handouts." If you get Baofengs, just be sure to try them out right away. China tends to let the consumer be the "quality control" department.
The problem I have is I can’t tell the junk from the gems with that stuff Pete. How do ya even know if the used ones even work?
