For those of you that stopped in and drooped some greetings on Christmas… I just wanted to say “Thank you”. Thanks for taking the time to comment, to drop a rude joke or point out errors in my thought process or positions on things. Thanks for thinking of us.
Christmas for us was subdued this year. I don’t do family holidays anymore or take part in gatherings of people outside of church. There’s too many assholes out there, everywhere - wanting to start a fight about the stupidest shit. And of course, being a stupid shit myself…it leads to heartburn and blood pressure I don’t need. The last family Christmas dinner I was at left me wishing I was at home eating a cheese sandwich.
I finally became a pariah in my family ten years ago when I refused to get woke and wouldn’t celebrate my daughter’s sexuality. Then again during Covid when I refused to get the vax. I didn’t see my parents for a year and a half because of that one. Mom wanted JL and the RCMP to arrest people like me and put us in a camp for not taking the Covid shots. I’m now a Nazi/racist/homophobe/Blumpf fan and not fit for civilized company. My penchant for off colour jokes and laughing at stupid people is not appreciated at all. None of that makes for a Merry Christmas with a very liberal progressive family.
We got up on Christmas morn, we opened our gifts, then the Niglet and I went for a long glorious walk in the warmth and sunshine. Edmonton is Chinooking right now and temps are warm and mild. When we got home, I went down into the Reclusiun to resume my build on a new RC airplane.
I’m almost done the wing. All it is now is all filling in the gaps, and sanding out and shaping the bumps and uglies. It’s long, detailed, fussy work… but I should finally be done by next week. Final sanding, put in the wing servos… and she’s DONE! ☺️👍
Then it’s on to the fuselage and that should be a months long gong show too…
The problem with wood and PLA glue is that when they get old, they get brittle. If the Dirtybird doesn’t crash from mechanical or electrical failure, if it survives pilot error… one day while flying a critical joint will give, which will lead to others and it’ll come back to earth for the last time in pieces.
Much like this cheesy decoration. The wife loves it. It was her Grandmother’s and is at least 40 years old. The legs all busted off when it got dropped. There are better ways to do a simple glue-up like this, but I broke out my late father’s clamps and did the job with them. It was our first Christmas without him. My own clamps are better than his but…gah. I am prone to maudlin sentimentality sometimes. Sue me. I hit the breaks with thin CA and then carefully went round and hit everything with the heavy wood glue. Ya won’t even see it. That should hold it for another 30 years or so?
😂
I suppose hermitage sounds awful to many… but my lord… a day in the basement with the music, tools, and projects… I love it. The texts and phone calls came in from friends and acquaintances and I appreciate the time they took to think of us as well. After supper I went for a shorty again with the Niglet, and had two moderate drinks of Ardbeg Ughiedel (Ooh-ga-dale?)… when I got home. and I just can’t drink anymore at all. The next day I wasn’t hung over but I had the whisky shits and was crapping paste! GAH!
🤢
This morning I was informed that PP over at the Smallhold had passed away. He’d been MIA for the longest time and I just assumed it was because he was rural agrarian and always up to his armpits in chores. His wife said that he passed on Dec 8. If you have the time ya might want to stop by his blog and make your condolences. I’d have loved to have met him and half the bums that poasted in the comments there.
Another year is upon us. Not gonna be sad for PP… he’s on to whatever comes next…and maybe I’ll see him on the other side?
I hope you all had a blessed Christmas… and that you’re in for a great 2025.
Cheers,
Filthie
I use to read him quite awhile ago and commented often there. I stopped visiting there as he hadn't posted in a long time. Glen, do you have his blog URL, I would like to stop by and offer my condolences. I spent the Christmas day at my liberal brothers house and while we agree not to discuss Rs and Ds there was a palatable tension between him and his wife and I didn't stay long, just for dinner and the ham dinner suffered for this tension... Food was barely eatable... Next year I am planning on being back to the mid-west where I can enjoy my holidays in blissful solitude.
ReplyDeleteHe’s up on the blog roll, Cederq. I’m gonna leave him on there too, for awhile. I liked hassling him too…😔
DeleteLove the rockin Moose
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteAs my folks got on in years my mother adopted an interesting derogatory statement to scream at my father. Presumably because she did the laundry. "You shit ass!"
Glen, your mom can go have sex with a bull moose.
ReplyDeleteEven if I wasn't busy dealing with thieves, drug addicts, and rapists on a fairly regular basis (yes, even in a moderately small Alberta town - imagine that!), I sure as hell wouldn't have time for the scamdemic horseshit....seeing as I never did in the first place.
Funny thing is, I'm not sure many other mounties still on the Force would be keen to pull that shit on people either, given the unanimous hatred of our idiot-in-chief AND that many people who took the clot shot are dropping like flies (which is very much being kept on the QT).
Oh well. Choices do indeed have condequences...
