I must be a low grade alcoholic. Every couple a weeks I’ll stop what I’m doing and think - “Geez….! I’d love a glass of Kilkenny right now…”. Or I think how great a dram of scotch or bourbon would be nice with a nice cigar…
I think the last time I bought a bottle of Blanton’s it was close to $100.00. I wonder what it is now? 😂
When I quit drinking regularly years ago … I had a modest “working” scotch collection going. “Working” in the sense that I intended to either drink or serve every bottle. None were “investment” bottles costing thousands of dollars. I still have most of it. Every two or three years I open a bottle so I always have something around for social or special occasions. But… I’m all out of bourbon!
If I do buy a few cans or a bottle…it’ll be the first time I set foot in a liquor store in six or seven years! I’ve heard everything’s different now. Way back I’d go in and you’d see the odd special bottlings of the various spirits, but then EVERYTHING became a special bottling with price tag to match! It was ridiculous! Is it still like that?
The other problem I have is booze doesn’t seem to taste the same anymore. I used to be able to sit down over drink, smell it and taste it - and start picking out some of the notes and flavours. I couldn’t tell one make from another in a blind taste test - but I could distinguish between wood, earth, flowers, chocolate, caramel etc etc. I could even do it for wine but I wasn’t as good with it as I was with whisky. Nowadays I’m doing good if I can distinguish between lighter fluid and Lysol. Is it because of age? Or just being away from the sauce for so long? What’ll you be drinking this Christmas?
It’s time for some Christmas appreciation again today! Some of us want booze for Christmas. Some of us may look forward to pigging out over a feast! Being ever so politically correct - I like to celebrate the holiday season with diversity!!! Yesterday we paid homage to our morally and intellectually superior black friends… so today we should celebrate our greatest allies and friends! Let’s get this judeo-Christmas on the go - and have a great Humpday!!! 😊👍
Thanks for stopping in!
In 21st century America, even the vilest abominations are deserving of “constitutional protection,” so long as they don’t approach that third rail of political discourse . . . Jewish power.
ReplyDeleteRight now U.S. lawmakers are hard at work trying to decide how best to pass an insidious piece of legislation called the Antisemitism Awareness Act through the Senate. There is little debate amongst the parties on the unconstitutional contents of the legislation itself; it’s supported overwhelmingly on both sides of the aisle, passing the House in May by a vote of 320-91. Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer is pushing to have it included as part of either the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) or the Appropriations Bill, to avoid forcing liberal lawmakers to vote openly on it. Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson would prefer the bill goes to a standalone vote, claiming he doesn’t want to imperil passage of the NDAA by attaching too many unrelated items to it.
The Antisemitism Awareness Act mandates that government civil rights offices adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) working definition of “antisemitism” — which includes criticism of Israel — when enforcing Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The IHRA’s official website defines antisemitism as “. . . a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred towards Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and their property, towards Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.” (Emphasis supplied) examples of what it considers unacceptable behavior, a few of which are listed below:
* Targeting of the state of Israel.
* Making mendacious, dehumanizing, demonizing, or stereotypical allegations about Jews as such or the power of Jews as a collective — such as . . . the "myth" about a world Jewish conspiracy or of Jews controlling the media, economy or other societal institutions.
* Denying the fact, scope, mechanisms (e.g. gas chambers) or intentionality of the genocide of the Jewish people at the hands of National Socialist Germany and its supporters and accomplices during World War II.
* Accusing the Jews as a people, or Israel as a state, of inventing or exaggerating the Holocaust.
* Accusing Jewish citizens of being more loyal to Israel, or to the alleged priorities of Jews worldwide, than to the interests of their own nation.
* Denying Jewish people their right to self determination, e.g. by claiming the state of Israel is a racist endeavor.
* Applying double standards by requiring of it (Israel) a behavior not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation.
* Using the symbols and images associated with classic antisemitism (e.g. claims of Jews killing Jesus or blood libel) to characterize Israel or Israelis.
* Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.
Congressman Mike Lawler, co-author of the Antisemitism Awareness Act, would like to see the Department of Education employ “third-party antisemitism monitors” on college and university campuses; little snitches who will report “anti-Semitic” incidents to the authorities and produce quarterly reports on the institution’s progress in fighting antisemitism. Under this system, if any violations of the Civil Rights Law are reported, the Department of Justice will get involved and the institution could lose its federal funding.
Freedom-loving Americans who support Trump are in for a rude awakening very soon. Trump has handpicked a war cabinet composed of fanatical Zionist hawks.
I see them now. A lot of us do.
DeleteAnd a lot of us don’t and never will until they find themselves between The Tribe and a pocketful of change.
I guess I really don't have discriminating tastes - I can't tell all the different flavors. But I can tell if it's strong, weak, smooth, bitter, lighter fluid, or cough medicine. I was going into the 110 proof barrel strength stuff for a while, but now anything over 90 proof and smooth is my best bet. Been on a Maker's Mark kick for a while, occasionally some Pig Whistle stuff (cheaper version, not the $100 bottle crap). I can't quite see dropping a full C note on alcohol. After the first 2 or 3 shots it doesn't really matter anymore anyway.
ReplyDeleteYou’re absolutely right Don. But… there are worse vices than Blanton’s… ☺️
DeleteLMFAO!!!
ReplyDeleteI quit the sause 4 months back and went full potato into fitness and don't plan on looking back. With the booze went the Black Forest cake addiction and an few others! Highly recommend quitting! Kobucha is my fizzy drink now.
