Sigh… Y’know… kids SHOULD be able to make a buck mowing lawns, doing scut work, and bringing in bales. When I was a kid I mowed the grass and did my chores for free and worked odd jobs for spending money. We all did. And if no floggable kids were around people did their own lawn maintenance. Hell’s bells, people had deck building parties. I’ve seen millionaires mowing their own grass and pushing their own snowblowers. Pop, Big bro and I built three houses.
But then my parents’ generation thought it would be a good idea to offshore their kids’ higher paying blue collar jobs, then replace us with an imported, stupid and often violent foreign underclass, double the size of our labour market by taking women out of the home and putting them in the workplace, and forgetting all about their displaced kids that got lost in all the virtue signalling… The ones who now languish in the basement, playing video games and smoking grass.
I don’t care how painful it is. Our kids can’t afford their own homes or start their own families. We need to put our kids back to work and leave some kind of future for them. Not only do they need simple mundane jobs to learn how to work as youngsters - they need real jobs for when they become adults.
For me personally the idea of poorly paid servants disgusts me. I will mow my own grass, and if I gotta do more involved repairs and maintenance I’ll just go on OyTube and learn how to do it myself. My dad and his dad prided themselves on their independence and letting ourselves become dependent on mexicans and chinks and hostile trade partners is another thing that has to change. The only reason I would conceivably pay a kid to mow my lawn would be as a charity or a form of ‘workfare’ to benefit the kid.
Screw you, Chickie! Guess you’ll just have to put up with a leaky roof or a shaggy lawn…๐๐๐

I'm an older millennial who went the blue collar route, and I've found the newly discovered respect and celebration of blue collar work to ring rather hollow -- in many shops there is no room for advancement as the Boomers and Xers who failed to financially plan ahead stay on past a normal retirement age, and wages are lower than people expect as a result of owners/employers trying to keep costs low so they can compete with foreign shit.
ReplyDeleteThere are certainly SOME people raking in the money, but that isn't true for the majority of blue collar folks I've talked to in my area. It is actually quite similar to the white collar job market in that respect: despite the Gates's and Musks, most folks in that category are keyboard pounders making jack. Granted, I'm a pessimist, but I'm expecting financial problems to claim at least one more generation before anything improves.
