I like Trump, he’s probably the best president you guys have had since Reagan. He’s undoubtedly the best leader in all the western countries. But… maybe I’m just old and grumpy. Maybe this is a PR master stroke in a game of 5D chess.
But dear God… choosing a leader is serious business for serious people.
Isn’t it?
Read your history books - since day one elections have had cheating, lying, fixing, bribery, and all sorts of shenanigans going on. Tammany Hall ring a bell? They just covered it up better pre-internet. That, and the mantle of time has tinted the past with rose colored lenses.
ReplyDeleteTrump is a master of the PR, no doubt. But then he governs like a moderate that actually puts the USA first, which is all we really want. However he vastly underestimated the swamp the first time and we all hope he does better this go-around.
I think most serious people think this way, I'd imagine Thomas Paine would be horrified that people would not be willing to make it through even a short read like Common Sense these days. But also recall, even then people took sound bites from his work like , "these are the times that try men's souls." I equate this to today's meme culture. Trump is often a living, breathing meme - anything to break the glass.
ReplyDeletePresident Trump doesn't get to chose the play ground.
ReplyDeleteWe need someone that doesn't take themselves too seriously. Look at all the slimey narcissists (reptilians?) that have inhabited the "halls of power" for the last few decades. We would be much better off if we pulled 1000 random people out of the phone book (remember those?) and assigned them to a 4 year stint to "do your duty" in congress and the Executive department. Not me, I would be looking for retribution.
ReplyDeleteThe Founders had it right, no professional politicians! Citizens (white, male, successful, property owning) go to congress, work for YOUR constituents, take your "fair share of abuse" (h t Rolling Stones) and go home.
Trump's a self- created clown, Kamala's a natural born one.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't been a serious country for a good long while now.
ReplyDeleteThe "serious people" ship sailed when we decided everyone has the right to vote.
