If I were a bad guy that the authorities had to worry about… I flat out wouldn’t use ANY digital devices and I’d assume all my analog stuff was wired for sound. I like the idea of a super secure smartphone because of my nasty, contrarian nature… but I doubt such an animal truly exists…

The Erik Prince Unplugged phone! I got one a few months ago. I'm taking his word for it that it does or doesn't do some of the things Android/Apple phones do, for instance the Unplugged phone is supposed to block advertiser ID at the hardware level, and also doesn't use and can't use anything with google play services. I miss some of the convenient apps like Google Maps, the Chick FilA app etc but switching to this phone definitely has cut down on my "internet exhaust". I used to get a monthly "Google Timeline" report showing me where I'd been over the past month, since switching to this de-googled phone that report shows up as empty. The Unplugged phone isn't invisible, you still have to use a SIM card you get from a phone provider if you want to make calls, and 'they' can still get info about which cell phone towers your phone has pinged. But it's not supposed to listen to you the way the regular android/apple phones do. ANd it does have the hardware OFF switch if you want to make sure it's off.
DeleteSince getting this phone and figuring it out, I think I see how one could do this oneself by getting a generic android phone, wiping it clean and then installing something like "Graphene" open source OS. (There are youtube videos, it doesn't look that difficult) I was willing to pay to just get a phone that's already had something like that done and would work, and I have tech assistance from Unplugged if needed. But the Unplugged phone isn't a bad choice if you want to "do something" to break free from the digital surveillance that's all around us and don't know how to get started yourself.
