I wear the LBJ Open Road hat, which is similar to the cattleman but with a smaller brim, makes it a bit easier to wear around without banging into stuff with your head all the time. Don't see it on your chart, but it was very popular for a long time.
I have a Cattleman (8 year old) and a Gambler 40+ year old) in mid grade felt beaver. Also have a new and 30+ (beater) year old straw ridge top. I'm a hwite guy that's worked outside my whole life, still getting pre and actual skin cancer things removed. It's that hwite superiority thing or sumptin. I actively avoid direct sunlight.
Thot I was one of few who called them lids
ReplyDeleteI think that slang comes from the squaddies, Bear?
ReplyDeleteThat pinch point is one of my favs, as well.

ReplyDeleteBoss of the Plains was also called a Ten Gallon hat. Hoss Cartwright wore one in Bonanza.
