Sigh. Maybe in the next life.
Isn’t that just the way of everything now? You want an heirloom grade scattergun to pass down to your kids? Browning Citori! Want a rubberized, ruggedized beater for the field? Browning Cotori! All my waterfowling was done with a chit house Rem 870 that I bought on sale for $300.00. I think they still cost that, roughly. If I didn’t want to pack it… I had Pop’s Cooey 12 bore single shot. I liked it more than the 870. I’ve never been a high echelon scattergunner worthy of a Clitori.
Years ago I foolishly went into the gun shop, and my arch enemy was behind the gun counter. Ol’ Smoothie talked me into a Spanish Aye Carumba 20 bore side by each. He got me twice more with two CZ .22’s. If you ever see that guy in YOUR gun shop…you’re headed to the poor house! I can still hear his soft velvet voice… “Look at the wood, Filthie…the whorls of grain and the play of light… the seamless wood to metal fit….”. GAH!!! I’d empty my wallet, go home…and get shot by the wife with my latest purchase! Bastard!

Even if I had the money (and the compliant wife) to purchase a Clitori…I dunno if I would. They’re beautiful… but I prefer side by sides. I don’t care about function or performance, I like the traditionalism of them. If I had to go over/under…the CZ scatterguns are sweet, and the prices reasonable. If I had more money I’d look for one of the old Ruger Red Label over/unders.
My dream scattergun right now is an old .410 side by side with exposed hammers. A walk in the fall with the dawg, a pocketful of shells, in the woods full of grouse?
Maybe in the next life.
