The Original Dog Mobile

So I’m watching that kid on TOGR on OyTube and he had a flash of brilliance: he folded in the rear seats in his truck cab and put a cot in there…and spent the night in the cab of his truck and slept like a rock. He has the big Toyota Tundra and I have the small Tacoma. I wonder if I could do the same? There’s not a lot of room back there… and I am awfully rotund… but it’d be nice to leave the back for supplies and gear… I might have to look into it further…

  1. People get campers and do the sleep in thing all the time. Usually after an argument with the wife, or hiding from the feds.

    1. No shit! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

My dad would just get fed right up with mom, grab the dawg and be off to their big RV they had parked permanently at the golf course. Mom was happy to see them go too! šŸ¤£šŸ‘

  2. Back in the early 80's, there was one hell of a old car swap meet up around Fort Worth, about a 7 hr drive from home (South Texas at the time). I was a young teen with a old muscle car and some cash, my Dad with an even older muscle car and more cash. Along with my 2 brothers, we drove up in a 72 Chevy station wagon with camping gear for the overnight trip. We set up the tent in a local park and camped out, ready to look for old car parts the next day. And then the rain. A regular turd-floater, like a cow pissing on a flat rock. Within minutes the tent had about 6 inches of water in it. All 4 of us quickly moved to the Chevy and set up in there. Front bench held my Dad, I had second row bench, and my two younger brothers got the back. Plenty of room and lots of comfort.

Next day, the swap meet in a giant field was a big muddy mess. Had lots of fun watching people try to drive campers and pull RV's up a steep muddy hill. We'd take bets on who'd make it and who'd slide back down in shame.

Also found a perfect 67 Dodge station wagon with a stock 426 hemi engine, only asking ~$5000. I had $2000 in my pocket and spent the day begging my Dad for the other $3 grand. I made every promise possible, to no avail. I bet that car would sell for $50G's today. Dang.

In any event, an early 70's Chevy wagon is the perfect car camper vehicle, as tested.

    3. I bought a 67 Dodge Coronet 500 with a big block engine back in 82 with yard mowing money. I sold it in 2015. Spent many hours working on it, driving it daily during some hard years, always a pleasure. Still kicking myself for selling it, but at the time it was no longer running and I was fed up. It needed a full rebuild and I just didn't have the time or place to do it. Still miss it.

  3. I traded in my Rav4 on a 2000 Ford Excursion. I could have me, all my stuff, two dogs, and have room to sublet.
