When i was a little boy back in the 60s my dad would bring boxes of these punch cards home for us to play with. Using our imagination and some scotch tape many a fort was built.
I remember standing in line an hour to run my stack then trying to figure out where I went wrong then standing in line another hour for the key punch then back in line to run it again.
I remember using those punch cards in my "introduction to computer programming" in high school back in '82.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was in the Coast Guard, those cards and machines were STILL HANDLING PAYROLL!!! The damned machine was about fifteen feet long!!!
ReplyDeleteThe fun was pulling a half dozen random cards from someone’s stack or dropping an extra gibberish one on top of the next stack to run.
