The Evils Of Rotary Wing Aircraft

At Stubfart  RC Airfield when you crash - you get treated like an American fighter pilot shot down over Vietnam. There is no mercy, you will be jeered at, sneered at and thoroughly humiliated  because fuck your feelings and self esteem! Even if it was an honest mechanical or electrical failure - it doesn't make a difference. Wrecks are graded at our RC club and the current champion crashed a $12,000.00 F16 model at our yearly airshow. Powered by real turbine engines, it looked like a napalm strike and left a long strip of burning fuel and debris when it crashed a couple hundred yards away from the landing strip. To his credit the pilot took all his beatings and punishMINT stoically and heroically. Probly because as an old hand and expert... he knew that ALL pilots crash, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it in the RC world. (And he didn't particularly care one whit about what the other stubfarts and retards had to say about it, of course).

I thought this was an RC mishap and was about to gloat and sneer in the comments - but unfortunately this incident involved real aircraft and real people. Like the RC world, the Aviation Gods don't care about your feelings or level of experience either. When they decide your number is up, it's up and no bones about it.

Fixed wing birds are bad enough but rotorcraft are just itchin' for an excuse to kill themselves and their crews if possible. During the military's debacle with the V22 Osprey I was a major detractor of the bird because that thing was a widow maker and though it seems they may have gotten a handle on it... ughhh... I think it still is. Getting that POS just to fly killed more men than it was worth, and if that thing ever finds itself in real combat... GAH!

To this day I am mystified by the ability of these fiendishly stupid aircraft to attract smart people - and kill them.

  1. You got that right.
As for the V22, that was pure narcissistic, capitalist, sadistic, Satanic, greed. Not to put too fine a point on it, but that's what it looks like from waaay out here in fly over territory.
All the military needed were upgraded Chinooks and Sikorskys, but noooo, they needed to reinvent the wheel to transfer billions of dollars to the reptilian...er, I mean, Crony capitalist oligarchs. The blood sacrifice, deaths, maimings, despair and waste is just icing on the cake.
Got some kinda fucked up 3 day (so far) lab cooked up, flu like shit going on, so, pretty much a happy camper.
A little off topic, try listening to Miranda Lamberts, "Everybody dies famous in a small town. It's amusing and so full of small town truth/reality. It came out back in 2007, but somehow I missed it for years. I love country, story-songs. hmmm, think I need a nap, happy listening.

    1. While I'm bugging you with music, I just discovered a Canadian band, Corb Lund, "He's hard on equipment". What a Sound!! Shit, from 15 years ago! Where the hell have I been?!?
      Better late than never...I guess.

  2. I've read enough about the Robinson R's to know I would never willingly get in one that was planning on lifting off. Now I know I wouldn't park anything valuable anywhere under them if they do. Not to denigrate Robinsons or the owners and operators of their products, merely stating my preference, if such a thing is allowed nowadays.

  4. Had a buddy who was SF in Nam. Two tours. They that rode them called 'em fling wings. Helo pilots do not like the term obviously.
