Thursday Ramble: Notes From The Imperial Reclusium
- Ughh. Yesterday the Niglet and I put in 11 miles. An eternity ago I could run it… but now 11 miles seems endless. When we got home she scarfed her breakfast and just slept the rest of the day…I could hear her snoring from down in the basement. I am crippled for life. Today we’re gonna keep the walks short…6 miles at the most, broken out over two walks. I’m old. I need a recovery day…
π
- Cederq poasted an interesting clip about Pete Hegsworth - Trumps new Secretary of Defense, apparently. I’m a big fan of Shawn Ryan. Like many of those special forces guys, Shawn got used hard by his nation, pushed beyond his limits, and thrown away like so much garbage afterward. He was a deeply troubled man for years but he’s sorting himself out. He’s gonna be okay… and he has a spectacular podcast where he talks with Pete H. about the collapsing military and other institutions that woke liberals have destroyed.
I want to like Pete but he’s a political player, a former brass hat…and he makes me uneasy. JD Vance did too and maybe still does, a bit? They make the right noises but gawd… talk is cheap. I’m not going to take anyone seriously until I see people getting fired, charged in court, and sent to prison… but whadda I know? Maybe guys like Pete can put the run on the perverts and socialists before they destroy the country? The full interview is below, it’s 2.5 hours, and makes for an interesting listen as you do your chores and drink your morning coffee. I’m an hour and a half in… and it’s a fascinating discussion.
π€¨ Hmpfffff!
- Yesterday I was chowing down on some Tums because I was lit right up - and one of my damned molars cracked. It was filled years n’ years ago and the break was jagged as hell and sharp enough to cut up the inside of my mouth. I got so damned mad that I did a little home dentistry with some of my specialists tools… and I’m as good as new! All it took was some quick passes with some 120 grit sand paper to dull that jagged tooth down. I’ve always had a flair for the medical sciences. If any of you need top tier dental work done - hit me up. Reasonable rates!
If I have any further trouble with it I’ll just go
pick a fight with JL. Or maybe get Mike on the pliers.
ππ
- Speaking of dental tools… I finally done it. I screwed up my nerve, went over to the tool shelf… and bid a tearful farewell to Ol’ Yeller… π’
I’ve got some new tungsten carbide bits that’d work great
on all Pete F’s cavities…but he’s gone into hiding
and disappeared.
He can run - but he can’t hide forever…
π
Ol’ Yella is off to his final reward after…28 years…? Batteries, charger…gone. I have a corded Black and Decker and a Porter Cable drill and should have turfed Ol’ Yeller ages ago but I just get foolishly attached to my toys…same way little kids get attached to teddy bears or certain toys of their own. But…I’m not gonna buy new batteries just to have the drill break down. One a these days I gotta start downsizing…
- I’ve started the new wing build after the horrible Dirty Bird disaster yesterday. P2 said it was repairable… but… my nigger rigged spars were less than perfect and that broken wing is going in the fire pit. Now that I know what I’m doing the replacement wing will be built much faster and better. I’m lucky I kept my rib templates.
60 grit is too course for precision dental work…
but with a little road rage, it’ll make short work out of these new ribs…
π
By the time Flapz gets back on the weekend, we can rip new spars on his table saw and these ribs will be cut out and ready to lay up next week. All it takes is time and rage and anything’s possible.
ππ
- I’m also kicking around the idea of a slower park flyer that I could fly out in the field beside the little chapel out in the country. A small, quiet electric would be just the ticket and there’s people 3D printing the parts for a rather slick home build utilizing carbon arrow shafts for the fuse.
Problem is I don’t have a 3D printer. I don’t know anyone with one either. The local hobby shop has a sale on some Creality brand printers - for $300.00. That’s not bad but the gurus I’m seeing recommend starter machines that cost twice that… and professional machines are twice that again. If I can’t find someone with a printer … I may try and make my own out of wood.
I hope you all are doing well and staying in front of your dental hygiene. If anyone needs to book an appointment (or has a tip on the whereabouts of Pete F) - hit me up in the comments.
If you want slow but high lift there was a research paper 30 years ago on the cross sectional wing of a dragon fly. Very high lift at low speeds and great stability.
