One thing that I have been thankful for may be interesting to you. I live in Florida and before I retired I traveled for work all the time. In 2009 I was sent to Montreal, CA for about four months of work. I was staying in a hotel for that time that served a meal every day as a part of your room rate (other than weekends).
I didn't realize that Canada's Thanksgiving was in October - the entire hotel shut down for that holiday and I got permission to stay in the hotel, even though there was no staff working on the holiday. The front desk and all of the hallways were dark and empty and I was entirely alone in this big hotel - writing reports for work in my room.
Right about mid-day, there was a knock at my door. At the door was the hotel manager, a man that I had never met, with Thanksgiving dinner for me in insulated containers - taken from his own table - so that I could participate in the Canadian Thanksgiving.
My assignment in CA ended shortly thereafter, but I will never forget the kindness of that gesture. Very heartwarming.
