Years and years ago - can’t remember which one it was - but one of the big blue democrat shithole cities was running its fire departments ragged. Apparently there was so much urban decay and diversity that entire neighborhoods were falling into disrepair and ghost-ghettos and had become dumps. They became a playground for arsonists. Some departments were going out every night. It was so bad that the guys couldn’t repair or maintain their equipment between call outs. Fatigue started taking its toll and guys were getting hurt on the job or even killed. Of course the politicos were unsympathetic and accused them of not doing their jobs.
Was it Chicago? I seem to recall a fish eyed mystery-gendered muppet running its mouth…for awhile it was the Current Thing…and then the news cycle found something else to cluck and quack about. I wonder if anything ever happened with that? How do you deal with something like that? Did those neighborhoods burn until there was nothing left to set on fire…? Or did arson go out of fashion…?
I can’t process all current news because I get vapour locked on old news sometimes…🥴
The old man worked at a comany that fabricated custom made fire engines & Brushbreaker trucks. The guys in the department that did the goldleaf lettering by hand were something to see. It's all done with vinyl now. Another skill gone in the name of progress (and profit).

That sounds like Los Angeles, CA. I have a close friend out that way - he's relocating this year, as he can't stand the stupidity - but arson was big one year. The hose draggers were draggin' their tails, funding was getting cut due to homeless benefits, and, unlike the cops, the FD can't just not show up.
