A year or two I got egged by the stubfarttery when that failed liberal social experiment went into the mall food court with a duffel full a guns. He dropped the bag, pulled out a sport utility rifle…and got RIDDLED by another kid 40 paces away! HAR HAR HAR HAR!!! I think the hero was shooting a Glock compact and during that sociable mag dump…he only missed twice. So? What’s that? 14 shots, all hits?

Well I got up on my hind feet and congratulated the hero…but then went on to say that he didn’t do any shooting that was superhuman or even beyond the average gunnie. He put his time in on the range and did what it took to develop an admirable level of pistolcraft. Most of us could shoot like that IF we put in the time and effort to do it. I’ll bet that kid was at the range two or three times a week and putting 6 or 8 thousand rounds down range a year. I used to shoot like that, regularly. Some of the geezers got mad and called me names even when I showed OyTube vids of regular guys duplicating the shot on the range with similar results. If that kid had put 20~30 thousand rounds down range per year…he’d have shot like Rob Leatham or Jerry Mucilek. So would you or I. It isn’t taking anything away from the lad to say this; shooting like that takes admirable discipline and focus and most shooters don’t have that. (I could only keep it up a year or two…but they were a great couple a years! ☺️)

There’s no shame in poor marksmanship either. Most people cannot shoot pistols well without a lot of practice first. It’s not cheap. A good used gun is going to cost a good six to eight hundred bucks. Ammo prices are insane these days. But there are no short cuts. You need a good gun, good ammo and good technique to shoot well.

The rest is just time and money. And it’s gonna cost a helluva lot more than $500.00…

  3. Dry fire practice can help a lot to save on ammo.

  4. Man it’s good to see you back ! Funny you put a pic of the ole hi point up, I’ve been curious for awhile about them. Can you buy an inexpensive gun that works and like you said spend money on ammo, so I figured one day I’d find one and try it out, my son has the 9 mm carbine, and it’s pretty sweet. I went to my buddies gun shop last week and he had a 40 and 45 both used, and I picked em up for $290 otd. Been shooting the a little, and man they work! And they shoot great, cleared one side of my dueling tree just as fast as with my Glock, yeah I’m a fanboy, gotta get my boys over to beat them up on the dueling tree with the clunkers. They are big heavy guns but they work and are nice to shoot, sure makes the argument for getting more ammo .

    1. Mr. Todd, they have great customer service, too!
My uncle's house burned down, so I gave him a cheap .22 rifle I had around, and a Hi-Point .380 I'd picked up for $100, just so he'd have some means of self-defense. No shame in them, if that's what one can afford. The key to proficiency with any weapon is practice.

    2. They do get the shame for sure! My boys gave me the look of shame when I told em, and yesterday I was working with a couple buddies and I almost didn’t tell em I bought the guns, but wanted to see their reaction, no surprise it was the shame look! ( filthie laughs here!) I have heard they take care of customers no matter if you’re not the original buyer. I like that and they shoot great. I know if I lost my stuff ,I’d be grateful for anything, but if someone brought me a hi point as you did your friend, I’d be proud to have you as a friend! They just plain work.

  5. That mall shooter was about 20 miles from here. Many of us around here are on acreage and it's legal to shoot on your own property. The sheriff himself told me this when he came to our house campaigning the year we moved here. I have a 100yd range with steel mounted at 10, 20, 50, and 100yds and have used it frequently, usually weekly, for the past 17 years. As I type this I hear the dood across the road out back shooting. Think I'll grab a pistol and do the same while there's still some daylight out there.

  6. Being down here in Tennessee I’m always hearing some shooting,it ain’t drive by’s, I have a nice steel target range and almost every time I go to shoot,at least once a week, when I start shooting another neighbor will start to, man I love it!
